Today, at the sacred shrine of Hazrat Baba Dawood Khaki (R.A) in Brar, Bandipora, it felt like the valley received a new **noor**. Under the leadership of Saheer Rather, the Empowering Kashmir team humbly installed lights so that devotees visiting this blessed Ziyarat no longer have to walk in darkness during the night. This small effort is dedicated to every heart that comes here seeking peace, mercy and a deeper connection with Allah (SWT).
Hazrat Baba Dawood Khaki (R.A) is remembered as one of the great Sufi saints and scholars of Kashmir, known for his deep love for Quran, Hadith and the spiritual path. He was a close disciple of Hazrat Sheikh Hamza Makhdoomi (R.A) and became a guiding light for the people, teaching them humility, purity of heart and sincere obedience to Allah. His life beautifully united knowledge and spirituality, showing that true deen is not only in words but in character, compassion and service to humanity.
Through his teachings and poetry, Baba Dawood Khaki (R.A) spread the message of tawheed, zikr, and total reliance on Allah, inspiring generations to turn away from ignorance and towards the light of guidance. The Sufi tradition he represented in Kashmir emphasized love over hatred, unity over division, and mercy over harshness, reminding everyone that the path to Allah is paved with adab, patience and kindness. His legacy still lives on in the hearts of people who visit his shrine with tears of hope and hands raised in dua.
These new lights around the shrine are not just bulbs and wires; they are a symbol of the spiritual light that Baba Dawood Khaki (R.A) brought into our lives. Just as these lamps remove the darkness of the night for visitors, the teachings of this great Sufi saint continue to remove the darkness of despair, confusion and spiritual emptiness from the hearts of believers. May every step taken under this light become a means of guidance, forgiveness and closeness to Allah (SWT).
May Allah (SWT) accept this humble contribution from Empowering Kashmir, from Saheer Rather and the entire team, and from every person who supported and prayed for this initiative. We pray that the reward reaches the blessed soul of Hazrat Baba Dawood Khaki (R.A) and all the Sufi saints of Kashmir who kept the flame of iman and insaniyat alive in this land. Ya Allah, by the waseela of Your beloved awliya, keep this shrine, this town and all of Kashmir under Your mercy, Your protection and Your light. Aameen.
