𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 — 𝗜-𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗘 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝗞𝗙𝗥𝗜.

Scientific infrastructure delivers its full value when the people who operate it have the skills and confidence to use it well.

The 𝗜-𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗘 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲, 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 by 𝗜-𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗠 (𝗢𝗣𝗦𝗔, 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮) in collaboration with 𝗞𝗦𝗖𝗦𝗧𝗘–𝗞𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗮 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗲 (𝗞𝗙𝗥𝗜), brought this principle into practice through a two-day, hands-on training programme at the 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻–𝗞𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗮 (𝗖𝗔𝗜-𝗞), 𝗣𝗲𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗶.

The programme moved from 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 — with participants engaging directly with advanced analytical instrumentation, guided demonstrations, sample analysis and practical training.

🔬 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟭 focused on 𝗚𝗮𝘀 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝘆–𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝘆 (𝗚𝗖-𝗠𝗦), with a lecture on theory and applications by 𝗠𝗿. 𝗦𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝗞. 𝗦., followed by laboratory demonstrations, sample analysis and hands-on operational training.
🧪 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮 turned to 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝘆 (𝗛𝗣𝗟𝗖), with 𝗠𝘀. 𝗔𝗯𝗶𝘆𝗮 𝗝𝗼𝘀𝗲 leading the technical session, followed by demonstrations, sample analysis and practical training at CAI-K.

The programme concluded with a Valedictory Function, marking the completion of the training and the participants’ engagement with these critical analytical techniques.

I-RISE is designed to strengthen the technical capabilities of 𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀, 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆-𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 through practical exposure to scientific equipment, while also building awareness of shared R&D infrastructure and the I-STEM portal.

At KFRI, that vision took a tangible form: equipment was not simply demonstrated — it was explored, operated and understood.

I-STEM sincerely thanks the KSCSTE–KFRI team for hosting and supporting I-RISE and for creating a hands-on environment that brought technical learning closer to the research community.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗪𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵

𝘚𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘭𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘯𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮.

For centuries, we stood beneath the same sky, turning its movements into calendars, its patterns into mathematics, and its mysteries into questions that outlived the generations that first asked them.

Then, slowly, the questions began to acquire instruments.

In 1975, Aryabhata carried India’s questions beyond Earth. What followed was not simply a succession of missions, but a widening of what could be attempted - from developing indigenous launch vehicles to reaching the Moon and Mars, studying the Sun from L1, and mastering the intricate choreography of rendezvous and docking in orbit.

The remarkable part is not that every question found an answer. It is that 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲.

That is how a frontier moves: not merely by going farther, but by acquiring the instruments, measurements and knowledge with which to see farther still.
