With the festive season already knocking on our doors, we are ready with our books and lighted-up reading nooks. We believe if children can see life itself reflected in what they read, they see books as an integral part of their life and not an isolated activity. That's the secret to raising readers for life.

At B.A.R., we celebrate books every chance we get. After all, aren't they a direct reflection of life and all the magic it carries?

Stay tuned as we celebrate the festive season through the written word.

A year ago, in the midst of the first lockdown, B.A.R. was born. It was never meant to be a virtual only platform. In fact, quite far from it.

I had always imagined it to be a physically intimate setup; a group of children bundled up together in a bookishly aesthetic setup and listening to stories and hearing each others' views about those stories. A very physical space where everyone could bring in a pillow if they wished, share notes about exciting literary friends and then settle in for the bookish adventure planned for that day.

But then, when do things ever really go exactly as per plan? We had to launch virtually. There was no other option.

This month, we turn one! In the last 12 months, in the middle of a global pandemic and multiple country wide lockdowns, we have managed to touch the lives of over a 100 children (across cities and even countries!) in spite of having never met a single one of them face to face! A truly fascinating and humbling experience of the bittersweet times we live in.

But, as it turns out, we have learnt that relationships can be built anywhere, as long as they are based on a foundation of authenticity and commitment to the cause. And as it ALSO turns out, we did manage to create virtual blanket forts and transport ourselves to different worlds after all.

We are ever so grateful to every single parent and every single child who has helped us grow, evolve and allowed us to continue to believe that what we do has an impact. Thank you for being the wind beneath our wings.

Here's to building a world full of children who believe books are magic. Miles to go! Cheers!

"There’s tremendous value in giving students more choice in what they read, including books that may appear to be self-indulgent or have little intellectual merit."

You have to give children a reason to keep reading once they actually learn how to.

There’s a powerful academic impact, new research reveals, when students are voracious, voluntary readers.

"Reading gives us someplace to go when you have to stay where you are" - Mason Cooley

It is almost time for summer holidays and for the second year in a row, our children are going to be stuck indoors.

But. What if you CAN, in fact, let them see the world while still being cooped up safely at home?

10 days of visiting fascinating lands, discovering new worlds through inspiring books, a chance to meet and interact with fellow 'travellers' from across the country and finally a showcasing of your travel journal;
THIS is the summer adventure your children will be glad you signed them up for!

The Great Summer Getaway by B.A.R. promises to be a unique experience.

"A better reader is someone who sees reading as valuable. Who recognizes the need to read because they will feel less than if they don’t. Who sees reading as a necessity to learning, for themselves and not just for others. Who sees reading as a journey to be on, something worth investing in."

I have been thinking a lot about easy books. About our adult urges to steer kids into “better” books, harder books, away from all those easy books. Away from books with pictures, graphi…
