Did you know ?
1. Why Wasps/Hornet species like Vespa affinis Loveeee Banana Flowers?
Hornets and wasps do not visit banana flowers to pollinate them; they are attracted to two things:
🍃Rich Nectar: Banana flower bracts produce abundant, sugary nectar (you can often see droplets accumulating at the base of the flower petals/bracts).
🍃Prey Insects: Hornets are aggressive apex predators. Banana flowers attract small insects like fruit flies, thrips, aphids, and caterpillars.
2. So why does the Banana Weight Drop when Hornet shift their home or for that matter removed?
We observed while hornets aren't pollinating the banana, they act as nature’s ultimate biological pest control:
🍃Pest Control: Major banana pests—like banana weevils, thrips, aphids, and caterpillars—return to damage the stem, leaves, and developing fruit, which drastically suppresses fruit size and bunch weight.
🍃Protection: When a hornet nest is nearby, hundreds of hornets constantly patrol the banana plant, hunting and devouring these pests day after day.
🌝The Result: Without pests draining energy or damaging the vascular tissue of the plant, the banana pseudostem stays healthy, allowing maximum water and nutrients to flow into the banana hands. This produces noticeably heavier, fuller banana bunches.

Think about it: how did we let "seedless" become a selling point? Soil is an expectant mother.

Seeds are her life force, the mineral vault, and the evolutionary intelligence of a plant. If a plant can’t reproduce on its own, what real life is it giving your body?

When we engineer them out for the sake of not having to spit out a watermelon seed, we aren't just altering food—we're creating a food supply completely dependent on human manipulation.

No seeds = no self-reliance.
No self-reliance = a sterile future for the next generation. Sterile food creates a sterile future. It only means 'No Diversity' of any kind just live in a Monocropped world.

It’s time to stop normalizing seedless food and start prioritizing nature's original blueprint.

We grow 3 varieties of avocados. Our Mother Trees were sown 35 yrs ago in my parents farm producing us fabulous seeds. These amazing resilient seeds are performing well across India from the feedback recieved from our seed subscribers. Within 6-7 yrs, they bear luscious fruits ideal for guacomole, salads and makes dreamy smoothies!

The real joy of plucking an avocado brings sheer delight to our customers. Our avocados weigh more than half a kilo each & can be relished on its own without salt or balsamic vinegar or lime. Just melts in your mouth. This butter fruit is a lush green fruit when mature peels off with such ease. Each day sees us having it either in our salads, smoothie, Guacamole or on its own. Our farm habitats from rabbits and cows also relish them. Communities around us are having a feast. Saplings & fruits are available at our farm gate store.

It was an absolute honor to welcome my horticulture teacher and mentor, Dr. RamaKrishna Kamallapa, ex Horticulture Director, witnessed & expressed his awe as he explored our food forest model:

• 22,000+ trees & crops across 3,000+ species working in layered synergy.

• Multi-tier fruit zones intercropped with turmeric, ginger, and herbs.

• Flower diversity attracting pollinators who do 70% of our hard work.

• Tall millets & sunflowers on raised beds with companion diversity cropping serving as bird perches for natural pest control.

* Seasonal crop diversity both for food & Seed conservation

• To***co trap crop zones protecting our heirloom brinjals from aphids.

• Heavy mulching feeding the soil microbiology and suppressing weeds naturally.

• Accessible pathways ensure senior citizens and visitors with disabilities enjoy the lush ambiance.

• Our Seed Bank—the heart of Annadana - runs on meticulous systems, passion, and care.

Thank you, Dr. Rama, for the foundation you laid decades ago. Your legacy is thriving here 💚

Over 2 decades into saving seeds yet one never tires. The pulsating energy that this rich diversity fills me up is so sacred. Each variety has a historical & cultural source. The more you multiply, the more these varieties are made available to all our garden enthusiasts & our enterprising farmers. The exciting part is to watch both old & new varieties perform & some fail. With the hope it will revive in another season & we wait with abated breath. We just do not give up🌝 This season new varieties have been included and will be shared with you all shortly. Thank you all for your invaluable support and encouragement.

A small branch rescued from an urban footpath bin adorns our cottage wall in our Siragoli farm. Look at this resilient beauty rooted robustly, anchored amidst our trees & balcony.

That is the flower and developing fruit of a Monstera deliciosa, often called the "Swiss Cheese Plant.

Eating this fruit before it is fully ripe can be quite painful. It contains needle-like calcium oxalate crystals that cause intense stinging and irritation in your mouth and throat.

Ripening Signal: After 10–12 months, the green scales will start to lift or flake off at the base, exposing a soft, white, pineapple-scented flesh underneath We wait until the scales fall off naturally. If you try to eat it now, it will feel like you've swallowed a mouthful of tiny needles.

The scales fall off naturally: The green, hexagonal scales (the "armor" on the outside) will start to loosen and pop off on their own, usually starting from the base.

Long wait until the scent changes strongly of tropical fruit—like a mix of pineapple, banana, and mango. Patience is required to indulge in her juicy fruits!
