*Ghati Choolan, Uri – July 10, 2024:** On the 3rd of Muharram, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Uri paid a visit to Ghati Choolan to inspect the arrangements for the upcoming Muharram processions. The visit was intended to ensure that all necessary preparations were in place for the religious observance. However, residents voiced their frustrations over unaddressed issues that were previously promised to be resolved.

*During the inspection, the local populace expressed their dissatisfaction with the current state of arrangements. Many residents claimed that essential tasks, which were supposed to be completed promptly for Muharram, had not been addressed. These tasks included immediate shift of transformer blocking imam bargha's gate , maintenance of road connecting imam bargha and masjid and other logistical support necessary for the smooth conduct of the processions.*

A significant concern raised by additional residents was the location of an electrical transformer near the gate of the Imam Bargha. They highlighted the potential hazards posed by the transformer's current position and emphasized the need for its immediate relocation. The residents have made multiple requests to the administration and the Power Development Department (PDD) to relocate the transformer

*A community representative stated, "We have been asking the authorities to relocate the transformer to a safer location for a long time. With Muharram processions approaching, the urgency of this request cannot be overstated. We urge the PDD to address this matter before the 5th of Muharram to ensure the safety of all participants."*

The SDM assured the residents that their concerns would be addressed promptly and instructed the relevant departments to expedite the required actions. The administration acknowledged the importance of timely completion of these tasks to ensure the safety and sanctity of the Muharram observances.

As the community prepares for the significant religious period, there is hope that the authorities will heed their requests and ensure that the necessary arrangements are made without further delay.

*🚨Response from J&K L.G Manoj Sinha's (JK-IGRAMS) Regarding High Electricity Charges in Uri*

*VOICE OF CHOOLAN URI*🎤🎤

*Uri, July 5, 2024*— Moin Tanveer, a social activist from Choolan Uri, recently raised a grievance concerning the sudden surge in electricity charges affecting residents across the Uri area. The grievance, addressed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, prompted a response from the Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (KPDCL), shedding light on the reasons behind the increased charges and offering potential remedies for affected consumers.

#️⃣*Official Responses:*

1. *July 1, 2024 - Executive Engineer, KPDCL Baramulla*:
The initial response highlighted that the electricity load for all consumers in Uri had been enhanced to reflect actual consumption levels. The Ex. Engineer, referencing a report from the Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE), assured that special considerations are being made for widows and low-income consumers, with ongoing adjustments to their load. Moreover, the response noted that power supply to consumers with substantial outstanding arrears is being disconnected, despite the availability of an Amnesty scheme aimed at resolving such dues.

2. *July 5, 2024 - Further Clarification from AEE**:
A subsequent clarification emphasized that any consumer who believes their connected load is inaccurately high can approach the sub-division office. Upon reviewing a field report, necessary adjustments—either enhancements or reductions—will be made to accurately reflect the consumer's usage.

Moin Tanveer's grievance underscored widespread concerns among Uri residents over abrupt hikes in their electricity bills. The activist's outreach to LG Manoj Sinha was part of a broader effort to advocate for fair and transparent billing practices, especially for vulnerable segments of the population.

*The responses from KPDCL indicate an acknowledgment of the issue and a willingness to address consumer concerns through field verifications and load adjustments. Consumers are encouraged to approach the sub-division office if they believe their electricity load does not match their actual consumption. The assurance of special consideration for widows and low-income households is a positive step, aiming to alleviate the financial burden on these groups.*

*Breaking News: Boys Middle School in Choolan Suffers Waterlogging Crisis Due to Neglected Drains and Heavy incidents #

*VOICE OF CHOOLAN URI
🔶MOIN KAZMI

VCU:- June 15, 2023: Boys Middle School in Choolan is currently grappling with a severe waterlogging crisis, caused by the non-maintenance of drains situated behind the school premises, combined with heavy rainfall in the region. The situation has severely disrupted the school's functioning and poses a threat to the safety and well-being of the students.

As torrential rains have pounded the region over the past few days, the drains behind Boys Middle School have been unable to cope with the excess water, resulting in the inundation of the school grounds and surrounding areas. The lack of regular maintenance and clearance of the drains has exacerbated the problem, leading to stagnant water accumulation and subsequent flooding.

The waterlogging crisis has rendered various areas within the school inaccessible and has significantly disrupted the daily routine of both students and staff members. Classrooms, corridors, and playgrounds have been transformed into waterlogged zones, making it nearly impossible for classes to proceed as usual. Essential facilities and administrative offices, have also been affected, hindering the smooth operation of the school.

The safety of the students is a major concern in such circumstances. The standing water can pose health risks and increase the likelihood of accidents, such as slipping and falling. Additionally, the excess moisture can contribute to the growth of mold and mildew, which may lead to respiratory issues among the school community. Urgent action is required to rectify the situation and ensure the well-being of the students.

Parents and guardians of the students at Boys Middle School have expressed their concerns about the situation and are eagerly awaiting swift action from the authorities. They have urged the school management and local government to ensure that the drains are regularly maintained in the future to prevent similar incidents
