Baraut is a city and a small municipal board in Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh, India. Previously, it was under Meerut district which was bifurcated into Meerut and Baghpat districts. In the present state assembly election it become a new assembly seat due to delimitation. Employment

Baraut is home to a wide range of religious faiths. As such, there are many Hindu and Jain temples and Mosques in and around the city. There are thirty-two temples, forty Mosques, one gurudwaras and two churches in the region. The biggest temple is the Digamber Jain Bada Mandir which is one of the oldest temples, said to be hundreds of years old, is considered very important to the Jains of the town. There are a number of religious festivals held every year. A three-day carnival is held annually by the Jain community during Mahavir Jayanti, which celebrates the birth of Bhagwan Mahavir. Jains also celebrate the fair of Ucchav, which is the final ceremony on the tenth day of the Daslakhshani festival. "Rath Yatra" procession, which has many floats, starts from the Bada Jain Mandir to The Jain College Hall and returns the same evening. Another Hindu carnival is organized during Dusshera following Ramlila. Panchvati Temple is another major Hindu temple located in the heart of the city on the bank of the Nahar stream. This temple has three parts – the Goddess Santoshi Ma Temple, the Ram Temple and the Ganesh and Hanuman Ji TemplE. There is one Major Mandir of Sherwali Maa (Goddess Durga) in Hinduism. The city is infamous for its gangsters and criminals. The ICON of this city is chaudhary charan singh who was the MP here and also was Indian Prime Minister. Education
Baraut town has been famous for higher education specially in agriculture sciences. It has very old and famous post graduate colleges one is Janta Vedic College which is also known as Jat College, founded by some notable local farmers and educationist (master Ram Singh, Munshi Singh, Munshi Shanker Singh and others) and another is Digambar Jain College which was founded in 1920 (by Lala Ganga Ram Kishori Lal Jain, one of the leading families of Baraut). Later on one more Degree college was opened exclusively for girls is Jain Sthanakvasi Girls Degree College. Digamber Jain Polytechnic College Baraut is a well reputed.Notable Intermediate colleges are Janta Vedic Inter College, Digamber Jain Inter College, Mahatma Gandhi Inter College, Veer Smarak Inter College and Jain Sthanakvasi Girls Inter College. Notable CBSE schools are JP Public school & Vanasthali Public School. In Baraut, most of the courses are available up to the research level in the field of sciences and agriculture. Janta Vedic College is notable for its specialty in the field of agriculture. The education department of Uttar Pradesh also established the District Institute for Education and Training (DIET)for Baghpat district at Badka Road in Baraut. Host of Big Events
On 26 October 2012, Sub Junior State Level Volleyball Tournament starts in Baraut. This event ends on 29 October 2012. In this tournament, 24 teams from 18 zones were participated. The winner of this tournament was Sports Hostel Faizabad Team. They win this tournament two time in a row. It is not the first time that Baraut hosting any major event of games. In the year October 2003, Boys and Girls State Level Kabaddi and Kho-Kho Competition was also took place in Baraut. Interestingly, organizer for both the major events was Digamber Jain Inter College. On 31 October 2012, School Games Federation organised District Archery Competition at Janta Vedic Inter College. It was a one-day event. In this event thirteen archers take participation. Archers participated in Sub-Junior Class, Junior Class and Senior Class categories. Problems in development
Baraut is about 56 km away from Delhi. Despite its location in the National Capital Region, its development is poor compared to that of Delhi. Due to political reasons the central government had delebrately neglected transport system connecting Baraut to Delhi. Baraut is located on the State Highway No. 57. Economy
The economy of Baraut and the surrounding villages is based on agriculture. On the fertile land close to the Yamuna and Jamuna Rivers are planted the main local crops of wheat, sugarcane and mustard, along with mangoes, guavas and grapes. Watermelons, muskmelons and kakri are planted during summers. Rim-and-axles and agricultural implements are small-scale industries and sugar mills and khandsari units abound. The small city is mostly inhabited by traders and farmers. Most of the population consists of Jats" Muslims, Jains, with a minority of Sikhs and Christians. The city is famous for its Jain temples and grand Jain functions organized every year. It is also famous for producing wheels and axles, which are used all over India in motor vehicles.
