Chhatroo/Gurinal Case Transferred to Crime Branch; Saroori Thanks LG for Intervention

Kishtwar, August 29, 2026: Senior Congress leader and former Minister Ghulam Mohammad Saroori expressed his gratitude to Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha Ji for facilitating the transfer of the Chhatroo/Gurinal case to the Crime Branch for a specialised investigation.

Saroori said that the Lieutenant Governor had earlier personally spoken to him over the telephone and assured that the case would be transferred to the Crime Branch, following the concerns raised by the victim’s family and local residents seeking a fair and impartial investigation.

The investigation will be overseen by Shri Sanjay Parihar and Shri Javed Iqbal Tabassum, who will head the Special Crime Wing constituted to investigate the case.

Saroori said the transfer of the case to a specialised agency is an important step towards ensuring a fair, impartial, transparent and time-bound investigation and instilling confidence among the victim’s family and the people of the area.

He expressed hope that the Crime Branch would conduct the investigation in a professional and scientific manner, establish the facts without fear or favour, and ensure that all those found responsible face the strictest punishment under law.

“We are thankful to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor for taking cognisance of the concerns of the victim’s family and for personally assuring that the matter would be entrusted to the Crime Branch. Our only demand is justice. The investigation must remain completely impartial, transparent and time-bound, and the guilty must be brought to justice,” Saroori said.
