A Brief Introduction of Bipin Bhardwaj
Bipin Bhardwaj is a senior leader and social activist of the Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) who is also a member of National Executive of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as special invitee.. The struggle in the Narmada valley has been on for the last 25 years in which the farmers, workers, fisher people and boatsmen, displaced by the large dams, have fought to
secure their right to proper rehabilitation and livelihood. However, the successive state and central governments, presided by parties, have betrayed the people, treated them with callousness and deprived them of their entitlements. The people’s movement led by the NBA, which has involved tens of thousands of the local people and persistently fought on both the ground and the courts, has yielded significantly improved rehabilitation to the displaced families. However, securing even this partial justice for the people of the valley has taken a big toll of long drawn struggles in which the people repeatedly faced apathy and brutal repression of the state machinery. The governments that we are electing and the parties we are voting to power are denying the aspirations of the common people of the country. the party of the common people, was born. The NBA and its volunteers see BJP as a beacon of light and have allied themselves and the struggle with it, and are becoming a part of the larger political movement. Bipin Bhardwaj is an alumnus of MITSOB (Marketing , batch of 28), and had decided to relinquish high paying jobs long ago. He has spent the last 25 years in the Narmada struggle, leading an extremely dedicated and frugal life. In the past 25 years of dedicated social work Bipin Bhardwaj gained a lot of moral support from the citizens of various strata in both rural and urban parts of Khandwa, besides other parts of India and the world. As a part of BJP Bipin Bhardwaj promises to continue his work to secure the livelihood rights of the landless, farming, fisher and tribal communities in the region. In addition, he will work towards ensuring availability of water, electricity, schools and healthcare to all. He will act to reverse the process of privatization of water. In line with BJP core promises, he will work to eliminate corruption in governmental and business functioning, and to promote employment and communal harmony. People’s real issue will be identified through a decentralized governance process, and the same would be taken up and solved at all levels – local to state. The small and medium business and trading people too will be provided adequate protection so that they can carry on their business efficiently and honestly. To sum it up, BJP and the BJP promise to change the governance paradigm from ‘ruling’ to ‘service’ oriented.
