Operates through clusters of villages in different parts of the state. LLRS is a network of Engineering and Technology students and professors of C V Raman College of Engineering, India; a few village communities in India, the village school authorities, and the village Heads. It is currently in the beginning phase, working on a few pilot projects in mainly two village clusters, Binkudia and Manda
rbast in the Khorda district. The Living Lab functions as a series of student projects. Some of these carry academic credits and others are performed as audit components depending on the scope of the project. This intiative traces back to its origin from academic outreach activities in the rural high schools with a mobile laboratory since 2005. The initiative, still operational, is a successful one and has touched about ten thousand rural school children so far. An impact assessment of this initiative brought out the need for open innovation through a Living Lab arrangement with added scopes other than education. The various themes in which the Living Lab is active are, Water, Energy, Environment, Shelter, Science and Technology Education (through formal school channels), Science and Technology capacity building of the village community.
