Brief of the Case:
The complainant, Tulu Das, operated a online gaming and IPL betting ID. Accused Bhagaban Swain was a previous customer who had won few lakhs from the complainant.

When the complainant avoided payment and blocked his number, Bhagaban Swain created a fake Facebook ID in the name of *Payal Panda* and contacted the complainant through Messenger.

On 27.05.2026 at about 2:00 PM, the accused, posing as Payal Panda, lured the complainant to Shakti Nagar, 2nd Lane, Berhampur by audio call using a lady’s voice. Upon arrival, Sipun Swain and Prihan Nayak @ Vicky confined him in a room and brutally assaulted him with iron rods and other deadly weapons, causing severe injuries to his head, legs and hands.

The accused then called their associates and decided to shift the complainant to a deserted jungle area with the intention to kill him.

They abducted him in the Swift Desire car (OR 24 B 4433) driven by Sanatana Bisoyi. During the journey, they instructed others over phone to bring additional weapons.

In the jungle, they assaulted him again. They forcibly took his mobile phone, compelled him to unlock it, and transferred ₹3 lakhs through PhonePe.

As the transaction limit was exhausted, they forced him to call his friends, who transferred ₹6,000 and later ₹9,000. The accused also robbed ₹1 lakh in cash and took away his Oppo mobile phone.

Throughout the incident, they repeatedly threatened to kill the complainant and his family members if he lodged any police complaint.

The police conducted raids at probable places and arrested all four accused persons on 28.05.2026. They have been forwarded to the Hon’ble Court. Further investigation is in progress.

Arrested Accused Persons:
A total of 10 persons have been arrested from both theater parties of villages Ramapali and Gobindapur:

5. Deeban Kumar Swain — all residents of village Ramapali, PS Chamakhandi, Ganjam.
6. Brunadaban Swain,

10. Pintu Patra — all residents of village Gobindapur, PS Seragada, Ganjam.

Seizure:
Stones, lathis, brick pieces, and debris of a bomb from the spot at village Markandi.

Brief of the Case:
On 28.05.2026 at night, a Thakurani Jatra festival was underway at village Markandi. At that time, ASI R.Ch. Muduli, along with one platoon of force, was performing duty. Everything was proceeding peacefully. Two theater parties — namely the Mahabharata troupes from villages Ramapali and Gobindapur — were performing adjacent to each other.

All of a sudden, a heated argument broke out between the members of the two theater parties and their performers. Both parties then started throwing stones, glass bottles, bricks, and other objects at each other with the intention to kill. The duty officer and villagers tried to intervene and stop them, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

Instead, the theater party members assaulted the police personnel, used obscene language, and threatened to kill the officers on duty by pelting stones if they attempted to interrupt.

In the clash, dozens of people sustained injuries. The miscreants deliberately attacked each other. Meanwhile, the Ramapali party threw a crackers which exploded.

The police team overpowered the miscreants and brought the situation under control. The injured persons were immediately shifted to MKCG Hospital, Berhampur, for treatment.

It has been ascertained that Rakesh Kumar Swain, Panchanan Swain, Gundicha Swain, Bhagirthi Swain, Deeban Kumar Swain, and others from village Ramapali, along with Brunadaban Swain, Nirmal Pradhan, Manas Swain, Kanhu Pradhan, and Pintu Patra from village Gobindapur, were actively involved in attacking the police and the public. With the help of the villagers, the matter was brought under control. The situation is now stable. Ten persons have been arrested and forwarded to the Hon’ble Court. Investigation is continuing.

Two Motorcycle Thieves Arrested; Six Stolen Vehicles Recovered by Baidhyanathpur police.

Baidyanathpur Police arrested two persons involved in a motorcycle theft racket.
On 25.05.2026 at about 11:00 AM, complainant Rabindra Kumar Sahu parked his Blue Bajaj Pulsar NS125 (OD07AQ4512) in front of Axis Bank, Jayaprakash Nagar Branch, Berhampur. When he returned after 15 minutes, the motorcycle was missing. The accused was detained with the help of General public on 26.05.2026. On interrogation and leading to discovery, five more stolen motorcycles were recovered from the shed of scrap dealer S. Niranjan Reddy at Mandiapalli Chhaka. Both accused persons were allegedly stealing motorcycles from different places and parking them at the shed for sale. Accused S. Niranjan Reddy runs a scrap business.

Five Persons Arrested for Planning to commit Dacoity in Berhampur - Pistol and Live bombs seized from their pocession.

During night patrolling on the intervening night of 25/26.05.2026, Bada Bazar PS staff received specific information that a group of anti-social elements had assembled near Ainabandha pond, Talamentu Chhak, Berhampur, to commit dacoity.

Acting on the tip-off, the police team raided the isolated spot around 3:30 AM and successfully apprehended five persons who were discussing and preparing to commit dacoity/robbery in old Berhampur village and nearby areas.

In a proactive and visible policing initiative aimed at strengthening law and order, Shri Niti Shekhar IPS, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Southern Range and SP Berhampur Saravana Vivek M IPS personally led extensive foot patrolling operations in the sensitive areas falling under the jurisdiction of Badabazar Police Station and Town Police Station in Berhampur city today.

The team comprised:
- Superintendent of Police, Berhampur
- Additional Superintendent of Police
- Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Town)
- Inspectors-in-Charge (IICs) of Badabazar PS, Town PS, Baidhyanathpur PS, and Gosaninuagaon PS
- Personnel of 4 platoons of police force

The officers and jawans on foot traversed key vulnerable pockets and high-traffic sensitive zones within Badabazar PS and Town PS limits. The patrolling focused on direct ground-level assessment of the security scenario, interaction with local residents, shopkeepers, and members of the public, and reinforcement of police presence in these areas.

This community-oriented operation underscores the Berhampur Police Administration’s firm commitment to preventive policing, deterrence of anti-social elements, and building greater public trust through visible and accessible security measures. Berhampur Police Personnel Take to Cycles under ‘Sundays on Cycles’ Initiative of FIT India Campaign

In line with the national FIT India movement aimed at promoting physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle among citizens, Berhampur Police organised a special cycling event titled “Sundays on Cycles” today.

A total of 75 police personnel, including Superintendent of Police Berhampur, Additional Superintendents of Police, Deputy Superintendents of Police (DYSPs), SDPO Town, IICs, Inspectors and staff of various ranks, participated in the early morning bicycle ride.

The contingent set off at 6:00 AM from the District Police Office (DPO), Berhampur and pedalled to Gopalpur, covering the scenic coastal route.

The initiative was undertaken to encourage regular physical activity, reduce dependency on motor vehicles for short distances, and set a positive example for the citizens of Berhampur and Gopalpur.

By choosing bicycles on Sunday mornings, the police personnel demonstrated their commitment towards personal fitness as well as environmental consciousness.

Such weekly cycling events will be continued as a regular feature under the “Sundays on Cycles” programme to inspire the youth and general public to adopt healthier and more active lifestyles.
