“My candle burns at both ends, it will not last a night, My candle burns at both ends, it will not last a night. But, oh my friends and oh my foes, it doth give a beautiful light”
-Edna St. Vincent Millay:

As the saying by the veteran poet goes, heroes burn at both ends at night. They glister with a beautiful light when they last and after that it is darkness because there are no more candles being lit. It is our endeavour to bring recognition for such REAL heroes in common life that bring about some REAL change, so that many more people are inspired to follow their footsteps and are encouraged to participate in building a better society. This FB page is our attempt to bring such heroes to a wider audience & recognise the everyday heroes amongst us. It is high time to draw inspiration from the selfless heroes and transcend ourselves!

Whenever we hear the word farmer, a man with a hat and dirty clothes with a shovel in his hand comes to our mind. But you know these men play an essential role in our life. Our food and clothes depend on them.
The farmers dirty their hands and clothes for us. We wear clean and eat pure due to the efforts of farmers. They live their life simple but adorn ours.

No farmers
No Food
No life

Ms. Kamala Sohonie
Ms. Kamala Sohonie was the torchbearer for many women wanting to pursue and excel in scientific research. She faced all odds by her sheer grit, determination and brilliant intellect to become the 1st woman obtaining a Phd. in a scientific stream in a British University.

She had many barriers in her academic journey some of them thrown at her by great minds such as Sir C.V. Raman, who did not think greatly of women scientists. He was of the opinion at the time that women scientists may cause distractions to the fellow male scientists and did not accept Ms. Kamala’s application to research at the prestigious the Indian Institute of Science (IISc, Bangalore) at first.

It was after the peaceful satyagraha by Ms. Kamala that he finally agreed to admit her but imposed very strict conditions which would not have been possible for an ordinary individual to follow. These conditions included a year of probation, which meant that she could work in the University, however none of her work would be recognized until Dr. Raman was satisfied with all her work. The other condition was to work till late at night as and when required by her guide. These conditions were not imposed for the other male candidates at the time.

Ms. Kamala accepted these conditions and with her hard work and perseverance was able to win the confidence of Sir C.V. Raman. He was so impressed with her sincerity and discipline, that he not only allowed her to do research at IISc, but also changed his opinion and allowed other female candidates to conduct research at IISc.

Through our page we would like to recognize and celebrate the immense contribution of Ms. Kamala Sohonie in inspiring many other women to stand up for equality and pave the way for many other women scientists in India.

“"Evil is powerless if the good are unafraid."

Policemen & women are a much-maligned species in India. However, we need to remember that any police are a reflection of the society it represents. The need of the hour is to acknowledge the good deeds done by majority of the police force & marginalize the bad apples that are bound to be in any organization. Also, we need to strive to make the working conditions better for the Indian police force. It might be surprising to many citizens to know that about 24% police personnel in India work for more than 16 hours a day, on average, and 44% work more than 12 hours, the Status of Policing in India Report 2019, released on August 27, said. A workday is 14 hours long, on average. Four in five personnel said they do not get paid for overtime work. Further, 73% of police personnel reported that their workload is taking a toll on their physical and mental health.

When citizens celebrate festivals, these brave souls are on duty to avoid any untoward instance. It is disheartening to know that the custodians of the Indian law are themselves in need of serious support from us, the people of India.

Next time you meet police personnel, please don’t judge them blindly but acknowledge their work in spite of the terrible work conditions they face.

“A housewife is the magical force that changes a house to a home”

Webster's Dictionary defines a housewife as a married woman who is in charge of her household. However this definition doesn’t even remotely capture the breadth & depth of activities that these women do. In terms of impact, there is no other role that comes close to housewife. They keep the families fed adequately, manage to keep the homes clean & livable in spite of the best efforts of their children & spouses to create a mess. The first & the most important teacher for any child is their mother. She is expected to & manages to keep the familial connections with his husband’s family. In essence, she is the glue that holds our society together.

Men seldom realize that it’s the housewife who has the most difficult job in the world: waking up early, preparing breakfast, getting the children ready for school, preparing lunch, cleaning up the mess at home and so much more. Even before they can some rest, the doorbell would ring and the children are back from school. Then, the routine again, and by the end of the day, they were tired. Women in the family are the last to sleep and the first to wake up. Sometimes, even during a crisis in the family or when there is a dispute, it’s the lady of the house that stands rock solid to calm things down and face challenges head on.

Let us all join together to acknowledge the superheroes in our homes. Tag a housewife you know to acknowledge her!

With a deep sanctity, the motive to empower the underprivileged women & earnestness in action, The HelpBox Foundation a non-profit organization has been established & led by a team of females. Though the inception of NGO happened in 2021, the common thread that rose seven years back with the team with missionary zeal to uphold the three pillars of sustainable development i.e. Social Wellness, Education, and Economic upliftment of the society has resulted in the establishment of NGO.
“Our primary objective is to ensure women should have equal participation in the economy & empower the underprivileged women for participation in the formal economy” remarked by the SPOC of Helpbox foundation.
The team carried forward the torch by launching their flagship initiative “ Didi-ki-Rasoi” program where the foods will be cooked & delivered by Didi’s. Helpbox has touted this program with no men involved in the entire supply chain of this initiative & presently serving for the PG’s in Noida & for two companies also. The program has been successfully led by the dynamic women in more than five states of north India & Helpbox foundation is aiming to expand its footprints across the country. Remuneration to Didi’s has been given from the earnings and savings are pledged for donation.
“We used to visit the rain basera in AIMS in Delhi and have seen that many are underserved with main food & other basic amenities, we collect the needs of the people and serve them.
Needs of the people are more as we visit there, say we go with 100 food and we see 200 of them will be looking for the food” SPOC shares their experience & problem which they want to eradicate.
As the saying goes “the sword of the revolution is sharpened on the whetting stone of ideas”, with a team of 7 people at inception, now Helpbox foundation has garnered support from around 120 Volunteers who wholeheartedly committed themselves to the common vision.
The team also supports the educational needs of students which helps the underserved young generation to realize their aspirations. With the self-effacing spirit of sacrifice, Help box foundation strives to achieve sustainable development in the society in every aspect & their vision can be aptly remarked by the words of Mahatma Gandhi “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others”. Let’s ensure to contribute our respect and ensure their sacrifices do not go in vain

“If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one.” Mother Teresa

Due to the harsh & sudden lockdown in India, scores of people in slum areas and migrant workers along with their families were left with little access to food in Mumbai. In these dire circumstances, few heroes came forward to join hands together to combat the hunger pandemic ravaging the people. They started from main roads distributing food packets & tied up with like-minded restaurants that could be transformed into community kitchens. To reach more volunteers they established their presence in social media. This initiative was named “ Khaana Chahiye” . Till Jan of 2021 they had distributed an astonishing 47 lakh meals, 20,000 ration kits and reached out to about five lakh migrant workers. The team comprises of a mosaic of all professions from included IT and finance professionals, CXOs, actors, marketing professionals, musicians, students and chefs.
In other parts of the country also, people came forward to help the needy. A case in point, Bengaluru-based digital marketer Mahita Nagaraj managed to fulfil more than 26,000 requests for help and support. There was also businessman Maurius Norohna from Mumbai, who spent over ₹1 crore that he was saving for immigrating to the US, to provide groceries and food supplies to lakhs of people around his Borivali locality. He also distributed medical supplies and sponsored ambulances across Maharashtra.
Let us all come forward to support these heroes who have taken the first steps to feed the deprived of India.
