🌍 Observance of World Hepatitis Day 2026 at SCRI, Chennai 🌿

As per the instructions of the Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS), the Siddha Central Research Institute (SCRI), Chennai, observed World Hepatitis Day on 28 July 2026 with a special awareness programme at its OPD premises.

Dr. K. Nandhagopal, Domain Expert (Siddha), welcomed the gathering and highlighted the global significance of the day. He explained the Siddha approach to liver health, emphasizing preventive care through simple home remedies using traditional herbs such as Inji (Ginger), Chukku (Dry Ginger), Kadukkai (Terminalia chebula), Keezhanelli (Phyllanthus niruri), and Manjal (Turmeric).

Dr. E. Nidhya, Assistant Director (Pathology), delivered an informative talk on this year's theme, "Hepatitis – Let's Break It," explaining the different types of viral hepatitis (A, B, C, D and E), their modes of transmission, symptoms, treatment, and the importance of timely vaccination and booster doses.

Dr. P. Elankani, Research Officer (Siddha), Scientist-IV & Head, Department of Clinical Research, addressed participants' health queries and delivered the vote of thanks.

SCRI remains committed to integrating traditional Siddha wisdom with modern healthcare to promote liver health and build a hepatitis-free community.

SCRI places on record its sincere gratitude to Prof. Dr. N. J. Muthukumar, Director General, CCRS, for his continued encouragement and support in organizing public health awareness initiatives that benefit the community and strengthen the outreach activities of the Siddha system of medicine.

The Institute also thanks Dr. A. Kanagarajan, Assistant Director (S) & Officer In-Charge, SCRI, and the supporting staff of SCRI for their guidance and cooperation in the successful conduct of the programme.

Theme: "Hepatitis: Let's Break It Down"

In observance of World Hepatitis Day on July 28, 2026, the Department of Maruthuvam, National Institute of Siddha, organized an awareness programme under the guidance of Prof.Dr. G. Senthilvel, Director, NIS for medical beneficiaries to highlight the importance of hepatitis prevention, early detection, timely treatment, and holistic healthcare. Aligned with this year's global theme, "Hepatitis: Let's Break It Down," the programme emphasized breaking barriers to awareness, testing, treatment, and eliminating stigma associated with hepatitis.

The programme commenced with a warm welcome and introductory address by Prof.Dr.H. Vetha Merlin Kumari, Head of the Department of Pothu Maruthuvam.

As part of the programme, interns and postgraduate scholar delivered informative presentations on key aspects of hepatitis:

An insightful expert lecture was then delivered by Dr. C.B.S. Bharath Christian, Assistant Professor, Department of Pothu Maruthuvam, who provided a comprehensive overview of hepatitis, its clinical aspects, prevention, and management, enriching the understanding of the participants.

The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session .
