Reformed Christian Quotes ~ Adam and Eve trusted Satan over GOD because the serpent successfully shattered their confidence in GOD’S character, HIS warnings, and HIS generosity. Before this encounter, the couple saw GOD as a loving CREATOR WHO provided an entire paradise for them to enjoy.
However, Satan subtly shifted their focus away from the hundreds of trees they were allowed to eat and forced them to obsess over the single tree that was forbidden.
By doing this, he made GOD’S Protective boundaries look like unjust restrictions, planting a poisonous seed in Eve's mind that GOD was hoarding the best things for HIMSELF. Once they began to view GOD as a selfish "killjoy" rather than a Good PROVIDER, their foundational trust in HIM was broken, leaving them completely vulnerable to the serpent's deception.
With their trust shaken, Satan successfully removed any fear of consequences by flatly contradicting GOD’S explicit warning that eating the fruit would bring death. By promising Eve, "You will not certainly die," the serpent made cosmic rebellion look entirely risk-free and safe to explore.
Satan promised them equality with their CREATOR. He made them believe that a creature could rise to the level of the ALMIGHTY. This was the ultimate prideful trap. Satan tempted them with the exact same desire that caused his own downfall : wanting to sit on GOD’S Throne.
👉 (Genesis 3:1-7)
Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the LORD GOD had Made. He said to the woman, “Did GOD actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, but GOD said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’”
But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For GOD knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like GOD, knowing good and evil.”
So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.
Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths.
