Dainkund Peak, the highest point in the Dalhousie region at 2,755 meters, offers a commanding 360-degree view of the Chamba valley and the surrounding Himalayan ranges. Often called the "Singing Hill," it is famous for the musical sound produced as the wind passes through the dense forests of Deodar and Oak.
Core Attractions & History
Pohlani Mata Temple: Located at the peak, this unique temple is dedicated to Goddess Pholani. Notably, it contains no idol but houses a sacred trident (Trishul). Local legend suggests the temple was established to banish evil spirits from the valley.
Indian Air Force Base: A significant portion of the peak is an active IAF base, which is visible as you trek toward the summit.
The "Witch's Pond": The name Dainkund translates to "The pond of witches," rooted in local folklore that describes the area as a former dwelling for witches who were eventually subdued by the deity.
