The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) is one of the premier mountaineering institutes in the world. Founded on November 4th: 1954 by none other than Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, the institute is located in the picturesque hill station of Darjeeling. In more than 62 years of its existence, the Institute has trained more than 45,000 thousand students including 2,500 from different foreign countries.

The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling celebrated the Graduation Ceremony of the BMC 375 Women’s Course, marking the successful completion of rigorous mountaineering training by the participants.

During the ceremony, graduation badges were pinned on the trainees in recognition of their dedication, perseverance, and achievement. The event was attended by instructors, staff members, and fellow trainees.

The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling celebrated the 112th Birth Anniversary of Shri Tenzing Norgay Sherpa along with the 73rd Everest Day with great enthusiasm and pride. The programme was graced by Chief Guest Shri Dhan Kumar Pradhan, former MLA of Darjeeling.

The programme commenced with offering of prayers by Buddhist Monks, creating a solemn and spiritual atmosphere to honor the legendary mountaineer. The celebration also featured vibrant cultural programmes presented by the HMI Band and the Sherpa Buddhist Association cm Monastery, adding colour and spirit to the occasion.

During the programme, Shri Dorjee Lathoo and Shri Nima Norbu were felicitated with the prestigious Everest Medal in recognition of their contribution and achievements in the field of mountaineering.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest highlighted the immense contribution of Shri Tenzing Norgay Sherpa in placing Darjeeling on the global map through his historic first ascent of Mount Everest in 1953 along with Sir Edmund Hillary.
