After 1959 thousand of Tibetan Refugee Settled across Darjeeling which is look after by the Tibetan Settlement Office(TSO) a Unit of Department of Home of Central Tibetan Administration, Dharamsala. Darjeeling is connected to Sikkim, Nepal and Bhutan. Our Office is located in the main town of Darjeeling. Under our office jurisdiction we have around 12 small towns/villages where Tibetan are residin

g. We have total Tibetan population of around 3500. The economic condition over here vary from rich to poor. TSO focus mainly on the poorer section of the Tibetan Community. Compare to other Tibetan Settlements like South India and others, Tibetans in Darjeeling are living in scattered all over the district of Darjeeling, like a cluster community. Some are located at very remote place near the border of Nepal, Bhutan and Sikkim. They have to travel for hours to reach our office. TSO office try our best to reach every nook and corner to the needs of every single household. The main occupation or the source of livelihood is agriculture, handicraft, road construction, small petty business and seasonal business venture like selling of sweater during winter in big Indian cities.
