Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA) was constituted in the year 1987 by renaming the erstwhile Indian Forest College, which was originally established in 1938 for training senior forest officers. It is situated in the New Forest campus of Forest Research Institute (FRI) on Chakrata Road (NH-72),five kilometers from Dehradun town. IGNFA is currently functioning as a Staff College for the

officers of the Indian Forest Service (IFS). The primary mandate of the Academy is to impart knowledge and skills to the professional foresters and help them to develop competence for managing the country's forest and wildlife resources on a sustainable basis. In the Academy training is provided at different levels of seniority in the Indian Forest Service besides training the new entrants to the service.

डॉ. राजेन्‍द्र प्रसाद खजूरिया, आईएफएस, ने सँभाला इन्दिरा गाँधी राष्ट्रीय वन अकादमी देहरादून के निदेशक का पदभार

आन्‍ध्र प्रदेश कैडर के 1991 बैच के भारतीय वन सेवा (IFS) अधिकारी, डॉ. राजेंद्र प्रसाद खजूरिया ने 02.07.2026 को इन्‍दिरा गाँधी राष्ट्रीय वन अकादमी (IGNFA), देहरादून के निदेशक का पद सँभाला। उनसे पूर्व यह दायित्‍व श्रीमती भारती सँभाल रही थीं, जो 30.06.2026 को सेवानिवृत्त हुईं। इन्‍दिरा गाँधी राष्ट्रीय वन अकादमी के निदेशक के रूप में कार्यभार सँभालने से पहले, वे आन्‍ध्र प्रदेश पर्यावरण प्रबंधन निगम लिमिटेड के प्रबंध निदेशक के रूप में कार्यरत थे।
भारतीय वन सेवा के आन्‍ध्र प्रदेश कैडर के 1991 बैच के अधिकारी डॉ. राजेन्‍द्र प्रसाद खजूरिया एक जाने-माने वन विशेषज्ञ और शिक्षाविद् हैं और उनके पास 35 वर्षों से अधिक का कार्य अनुभव है। मूल रूप से जम्मू-कश्मीर के रहने वाले डॉ० खजूरिया ने कनाडा की टोरंटो यूनिवर्सिटी से पीएच.डी. की है और वन प्रबंधन, पर्यावरण संरक्षण तथा नीति निर्माण में कई महत्वपूर्ण भूमिकाएँ निभा चुके हैं। अनेक राष्ट्रीय और अंतरराष्ट्रीय पत्रिकाओं में उनके कई शोध पत्र भी प्रकाशित हुए हैं।
निदेशक का पद सँभालने के बाद, उन्होंने आईजीएनएफए के संकाय सदस्यों तथा कर्मचारियों से वार्ता की और अकादमी में चल रहीं विभिन्न गतिविधियों की जानकारी प्राप्‍त की।

Dr. Rajendra Prasad Khajuria, IFS, joined as the Director, Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA), Dehradun

The 1991- batch IFS officer of the Andhra Pradesh Cadre Dr. Rajendra Prasad Khajuria, joined as the Director of Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA) Dehradun on 02.07.2026. He succeeds Smt Bharati who superannuated on 30.06.2026. Prior to joining as the Director, IGNFA, he had been serving as the Managing Director, Andhra Pradesh Environment Management Corporation Ltd.

Originally belongs to Jammu and Kashmir, Dr Khajuria holds a Ph.D from the University of Toronto, Canada, and has served at several key postings in forest management, environment conservation, and policy formulation. He has also published several research papers in the international and national journals.

On assuming the charge of the Director, he interacted with the faculty members and staff of the IGNFA and took stock of various activities being undertaken by the Academy.

केंद्रीय पर्यावरण मंत्री ने भारतीय वन सेवा के मिड-करियर प्रशिक्षण कार्यक्रम के प्रतिभागियों से संवाद किया; उन्हें "मूक वनस्पतियों और जीव-जंतुओं की आवाज" बताया

केंद्रीय पर्यावरण, वन और जलवायु परिवर्तन मंत्री श्री भूपेंद्र यादव ने नई दिल्ली में भारतीय वन सेवा के मिड-करियर प्रशिक्षण कार्यक्रम के प्रतिभागियों को संबोधित किया। ये अधिकारी इस समय इन्दिरा गाँधी राष्‍ट्रीय वन अकादमी, देहरादून में चल रहे एमसीटी प्रशिक्षण में भाग ले रहे हैं और इसी कार्यक्रम के लाइन मिनिस्‍ट्रीज़ मॉड्यूल के अंतर्गत आज वे पर्यावरण, वन और जलवायु परिवर्तन मंत्रालय के दौरे पर हैं। नई दिल्‍ली स्थित इन्दिरा पर्यावरण भवन में आयोजित इस कार्यक्रम में केंद्रीय पर्यावरण, वन और जलवायु परिवर्तन राज्य मंत्री श्री कीर्तिवर्धन सिंह और मंत्रालय के वरिष्ठ अधिकारी भी उपस्थित थे।
अपने प्रेरणादायक संबोधन में श्री यादव ने कहा कि 'विकसित भारत' का मार्ग 'हरित भारत' से होकर गुजरता है और उन्होंने वैश्विक संरक्षण प्रयासों में भारत की बढ़ती नेतृत्वकारी भूमिका को रेखांकित किया। उन्होंने कहा कि एक वन अधिकारी की जिम्मेदारी सेवानिवृत्ति के बाद भी समाप्त नहीं होती, क्योंकि वे सदैव ‘मूक वनस्पतियों और जीव-जन्तुओं की आवाज’ बने रहते हैं। मंत्री महोदय ने प्रतिभागियों को यह भी जानकारी दी कि भारत जून के प्रथम सप्ताह में पहली बार आयोजित होने वाले इंटरनेशनल बिग कैट एलायंस (आईबीसीए) शिखर सम्मेलन की मेजबानी करेगा, जिसमें विश्व भर के लगभग 95 देशों और अंतरराष्ट्रीय संगठनों की भागीदारी होगी।
प्रश्नोत्तर आधारित संवादात्मक सत्र के दौरान श्री यादव ने वन, वन्यजीव और जलवायु परिवर्तन से जुड़े अनेक विषयों पर चर्चा की। उन्होंने चीता संरक्षण, कृत्रिम ऊष्मायन के माध्यम से ग्रेट इंडियन बस्टर्ड संरक्षण, नदी तंत्र को बनाए रखने में बाघ अभयारण्यों की भूमिका तथा विकास और संरक्षण के बीच संतुलन बनाए रखने के महत्‍त्‍व पर अपने विचार साझा किए। उन्होंने जलवायु परिवर्तन के शमन में भारत की प्रगति, एनडीसी लक्ष्यों को समय से पहले प्राप्त करने, वन एवं वन्यजीव गर्वनेंस प्रणालियों में सुधार तथा पर्यावरणीय प्रबंधन मे उन्नत प्रौद्योगिकियों के उपयोग पर भी प्रकाश डाला।
केंद्रीय राज्य मंत्री (ईएफसीसी), श्री कीर्तिवर्धन सिंह ने वैश्विक संरक्षण कूटनीति में भारत के नेतृत्वकारी भूमिका को रेखांकित किया तथा विकास तथा संरक्षण के बीच संतुलन बनाए रखने के महत्‍त्‍व पर बल दिया।
इस अवसर पर श्री तन्मय कुमार, सचिव (ईएफसीसी); श्री एस.के. अवस्थी, महानिदेशक (वन) एवं विशेष सचिव (ईएफसीसी) और श्रीमती भारती, निदेशक, इन्‍दिरा गाँधी राष्ट्रीय वन अकादमी देहरादून (आईएनजीएफए) तथा मंत्रालय के वरिष्ठ अधिकारीगण उपस्थित थे।

Union Environment Minister interacts with Mid-Career Training Participants of Indian Forest Service, calls them "Voice of the Voiceless Flora and Fauna"

Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav, addressed the participants of the Mid-Career Training Programme of the Indian Forest Service, in New Delhi. These officers are currently participating in the ongoing MCT training programme at the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, Dehradun, and are visiting the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change as part of the Line Ministries Module of the same programme. The event held at the Indira Paryavaran Bhavan, New Delhi was also graced by the presence of Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh, besides senior officers of the Ministry.
In an inspiring address, Shri Yadav stated that the path to ‘Viksit Bharat’ passes through ‘Harit Bharat’ and highlighted India’s growing leadership in global conservation efforts. He emphasized that the responsibility of a forest officer never ends, even after superannuation, as they continue to remain the voice of the voiceless flora and fauna. The Minister also informed the participants that India would host the first-ever International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) Summit in the first week of June, with participation from around 95 countries and international organisations worldwide.
During an interactive question-and-answer session, Shri Yadav discussed a wide range of issues relating to forests, wildlife and climate change. He spoke about Cheetah conservation, Great Indian Bustard conservation through artificial incubation, the role of Tiger reserves in sustaining river systems, and the importance of balancing conservation with development. He also underlined India’s progress in climate change mitigation, achievement of NDC targets ahead of schedule, improvements in forest and wildlife governance systems, and the use of advanced technologies for environmental management.
Union MoS (EFCC), Shri Kirtivardhan Singh, highlighted India’s leadership in global conservation diplomacy and stressed the importance of balancing development with conservation.
Shri Tanmay Kumar, Secretary (EFCC); Shri S.K. Awasthi, DG (Forests) & Special Secretary (EFCC); and Smt. Bharati, Director, Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA), were also present on the occasion along with senior officers of the Ministry.

आज 17 अप्रैल 2026 को भारतीय पुलिस सेवा (IPS) के 78वें आरआर बैच के अधिकारी प्रशिक्षुओं ने इन्दिरा गाँधी राष्ट्रीय वन अकादमी (IGNFA) का दौरा किया। इस अवसर पर डॉ. एस. आर. रेड्डी, वरिष्ठ सलाहकार, IGNFA ने अकादमी का संक्षिप्त परिचय प्रस्तुत किया। डॉ. डी. के. शर्मा, वरिष्ठ फेलो, IGNFA ने वन–पुलिस समन्वय विषय पर महत्वपूर्ण विचार साझा किए। प्रशिक्षुओं ने वन अनुसंधान संस्थान (FRI) के संग्रहालयों का भ्रमण भी किया।
यह शैक्षणिक दौरा विभिन्न सेवाओं के बीच बेहतर समन्वय और सहयोग को सुदृढ़ करने की दिशा में एक महत्वपूर्ण कदम है।

The IPS officer trainees of 78 RR batch visited IGNFA on 17th April 2026. Dr. S.R. Reddy, Sr. Consultant, IGNFA gave a presentation on the brief introduction on the Academy. Dr. D.K. Sharma, Sr. Fellow, IGNFA spoke on Forest–Police coordination and shared valuable perspectives. The visit also included a tour of the FRI Museums.

The 24th Sanjay Kumar Singh Memorial Lecture was organised on Sunday at the Hari Singh Auditorium of the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA), Dehradun, in a solemn event.
Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd), Hon’ble Governor of Uttarakhand graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and delivered the Memorial Lecture.
The ceremony formally began with the National Song and National Anthem, setting the tone for a dignified and reflective occasion followed by the ceremonial lamp lighting and floral tributes by the Chief Guest and other dignitaries to Late Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, IFS, whose life and sacrifice in the line of duty continue to inspire generations of forest officers.
As part of the commemorative proceedings, the Director, IGNFA, Smt Bharati, felicitated the parents of Late Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh by presenting them with a shawl as a mark of deep respect, honour, and collective gratitude for their son’s exemplary service and supreme sacrifice. The gesture was received with heartfelt appreciation and stood as one of the most moving moments of the event. Dr. Ghanshyam Narayan Singh, father of Late Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh shared their reminiscences, recalling his dedication, integrity, and commitment to duty.
On the occasion, five groups of IFS Officer Trainees were felicitated by the Hon’ble Governor of Uttarakhand in recognition of their outstanding performance and achievements during training.
Delivering the Memorial Lecture, the Hon’ble Governor highlighted the critical importance of sustainable forest management, particularly in fragile mountain ecosystems, and underscored the vital role of community participation in conservation initiatives.
He spoke about challenges such as illegal mining, encroachment, forest fires, unsustainable exploitation of natural resources, and human-wildlife conflict, urging young officers to respond with professionalism, innovation, empathy, and moral courage. He also emphasised the values of discipline, patience, balanced decision-making, and selfless service, while calling upon them to uphold the finest traditions of the Indian Forest Service. He said that compiling a book on the sacrifice and dedication of the late Sanjay Singh would be a good step towards learning from his life. He also urged the Forest Department to be more compassionate towards forest-dependent communities and wildlife.
The programme concluded with the National Song and National Anthem. The Memorial Lecture reaffirmed the enduring legacy of Late Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh and the commitment of the National Forest Academy to nurturing officers of impeccable integrity, competence, and compassion dedicated to safeguarding the nation’s forests and natural heritage. He said that preparing a book on the sacrifice and dedication of late Sanjay Singh would be a good step towards learning from his life.
Alongside the Director, IGNFA, the event was attended in large numbers by officials including Shri Ranjan Kumar Mishra, PCCF & HoFF Uttarakhand; Shri Raj Kumar Bajpai, Additional Director, IGNFA; Dr. Bhanudas Pingale, Principal Incharge, CASFoS Dehradun, Heads and officers of Central Govt Institutions at Dehradun, senior officers of the Indian Forest Service of Uttarakhand Forest Department, IFS Probationers of 2025 batch, veteran IFS officers; scientists, researchers and scholars from FRI, FRI (Deemed) University, UPES and Graphic Era University, Faculty members of IGNFA, CASFoS Dehradun, and staff of IGNFA, reflecting the wide respect and collective commitment of the forestry and academic community towards the legacy of Late Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh.

शहीद दिवस के अवसर पर इन्दिरा गाँधी राष्‍ट्रीय वन अकादमी, देहरादून के अधिकारियों और कर्मचारियों ने देश पर अपने प्राणों का उत्‍सर्ग करने वाले शहीदों को नमन किया और उनके सम्‍मान में दो मिनट का मौन रखकर श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित की। इस दौरान एमसीटी ट्रेनिंग के प्रतिभागी आईएफएस अधिकारी भी उपस्थित रहे।

On the occasion of Martyrs' Day, the officers and staff of the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, Dehradun, paid homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country and observed a two-minute silence in their honor. IFS participants of the MCT training program, were also remain present.

On this proud and auspicious occasion, Smt. Bharati, Director, IGNFA — the first lady Director of the Academy — unfurled the National Flag and inspired the IFS Probationers to renew their dedication to the service of the nation. The celebration also featured a group rendition of the National Song, ‘Vande Mataram’, fostering a spirit of unity and patriotism.
The programme was attended by a healthy number of officers and staff from IGNFA, DFE, and CASFoS, Dehradun, IFS participants from different states reaffirming our collective commitment to uphold the values of the Constitution and the ideals of integrity, responsibility, and excellence that define public service.”

इस अवसर पर अकादमी की प्रथम महिला निदेशक श्रीमती भारती ने राष्ट्रीय ध्वज फहराया और आईएफएस परिवीक्षार्थियों को राष्ट्रसेवा के प्रति समर्पित रहने के लिए प्रेरित किया। कार्यक्रम में राष्‍ट्रगान के साथ-साथ राष्‍ट्रगीत ‘वंदे मातरम्’ का सामूहिक गायन भी हुआ। इस अवसर पर आईजीएनएफए, डीएफई एवं CASFoS देहरादून के अधिकारी एवं कर्मचारी तथा एमसीटी प्रतिभागी IFS अधिकारी उपस्थित रहे।”
