The concluding session on the theme of Relapse Prevention was led by Ms. Aastha Khandelwal, Clinical Psychologist & Junior Consultant at NIMHANS, Bengaluru.

💡 From understanding relapse triggers and warning signs to learning practical coping skills, delay techniques, and avoidance strategies, the session equipped more than 250 Counsellors from DDACs & other projects under with tools to better support individuals on their recovery journey.

📚 NCDAP, NISD Welcomes a New Cohort for 2026–27🎤

The National Centre for Drug Abuse Prevention (NCDAP), NISD conducted an Orientation Session on 10th August 2026, marking the successful commencement of the Three-Month Certificate Course on Drug De-Addiction Counselling Skills, Treatment & Rehabilitation (2026–27).

With a batch of 60 students selected through a structured assessment process, the course aims to build and strengthen specialised counselling skills and practical competencies in the areas of de-addiction counselling, treatment and rehabilitation.

From exploring motivation to enhancing it — Day 3 of the ongoing Capacity-Building Series on Advanced Counselling by NCDAP, NISD, built naturally on the learning from .👏

Today's session, led by Ms. Aastha Khandelwal, Clinical Psychologist, working at NIMHANS, Bengaluru, delved into the theme of Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET)—focusing on strengthening an individual’s motivation and readiness for positive change.

The session was attended by more than 220 counsellors from de-addiction centres across India participating actively.

Building on this approach, of the ongoing Capacity-Building Series on Advanced Counselling was conducted on 11th August 2026, by the NCDAP, NISD, with a focused session on Motivational Interviewing (MI) and its practical application for Counsellors from various projects under NAPDDR.

The session was led by Ms. Aastha Khandelwal, Clinical Psychologist, working at NIMHANS, Bengaluru, and was attended by more than 245 counsellors from de-addiction centres across India.

The session explored practical counselling approaches, reflective listening and effective communication techniques, equipping the participants with skills to engage clients effectively and support them in their journey towards positive .

Day 1 | Advanced Counselling Techniques ✍️

NCDAP, NISD commenced its August Training Series today with an engaging online session on “Advanced Counselling Techniques” attended by more than 230 counsellors from across the country.

The session was facilitated by Ms. Aastha Khandelwal, Clinical Psychologist & Researcher, currently working at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru. She brought together practical insights and hands-on learning to strengthen participants’ counselling skills and enhance their confidence in applying these techniques in real-world settings.

Here’s to a meaningful start to a series focused on building better skills, strengthening practice, and improving recovery outcomes.

With setting the foundation, looks forward to continuing the learning tomorrow with another insightful session on Day 2. 🌿

NISD, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment signed an MoU with Punjabi University, Patiala today at NISD, New Delhi. This collaboration will focus on joint training, capacity building, and field-level interventions to strengthen social defence and mainstream social welfare in administrative training.
