The SLATE Trust (Society for Learning and Advancement through Empowerment) was founded in 2017 with the objective to educate women and to improve and strengthen their social and economic status through awa
reness programmes. Our prime objective is to identify and address obstacles to women’s empowerment, especially within minority and underprivileged communities. To Achieve said objective, SLATE has developed and continues to develop legal awareness programmes. SLATE’s approach to women’s empowerment is holistic by focusing on creating opportunities for education, helping women develop legal awareness and meaningful skills, rather than just providing basic needs. Additionally, SLATE works to raise awareness about women’s health issues, understanding gender equality and towards the aim of eliminating social backwardness. To date, we have mostly focused our work in Northern India and have conducted various research projects and organised many awareness programmes. This has included, conducting two independent research projects in Uttar Pradesh that explored women’s social, economic and political empowerment, and conducting various lectures and awareness workshops on core regional issues and gender disparities.
