At the Official Opening Conference of All About Ports (AAP) / LogiNext Germany 2026 at SMM Hamburg, Shri Vijay Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, joined global maritime leaders including Dr. Wibke Mellwig, Director-General for Waterways and Shipping, Federal Ministry for Transport, Germany; Jens Meier, President, International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) and CEO, Hamburg Port Authority; Suliman bin Khalid Almazroua, President, Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani); and other distinguished industry leaders to discuss the future of ports, logistics and global trade.

During the session, the Secretary highlighted India’s vision for resilient, sustainable and future-ready maritime infrastructure. He underscored the opportunities emerging from new trade corridors, India’s expanding ports and logistics ecosystem, and the country’s green and digital transformation journey, inviting global partners to collaborate in building connected, efficient and resilient trade networks.

India’s maritime ambitions and growing global partnerships were on display at the India Reception in Hamburg, hosted by the Consulate General of India, Hamburg. The event brought together government leaders, industry stakeholders and maritime experts from India, Germany and across Europe for meaningful dialogue on strengthening maritime cooperation and unlocking new opportunities in the sector. Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shri Vijay Kumar, joined distinguished dignitaries and industry leaders in reaffirming the shared commitment towards a resilient, innovative and future-ready maritime ecosystem.

A key highlight of the evening was the signing and exchange of an MoU between the Indian Maritime Centre (IMC) and the German Maritime Centre (DMZ), further deepening maritime collaboration between the two countries. The reception also marked the announcement of the opening of the Indian Register of Shipping’s Hamburg Office, reflecting India’s expanding global maritime footprint. The engagements set the stage for stronger partnerships and continued collaboration at SMM Hamburg 2026 and beyond.

Shri Vijay Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, held a bilateral meeting with Dr. Melanie Leonhard, Senator for Economic Affairs, Labour and Innovation, Hamburg, on the sidelines of SMM Hamburg 2026 to explore opportunities for strengthening India–Hamburg maritime cooperation. The discussions focused on advancing the green hydrogen and derivatives ecosystem, promoting green shipping corridors, sustainable port development, and enhancing collaboration across emerging areas of the maritime sector.

The meeting also explored opportunities for partnership related to the National Maritime Heritage Complex at Lothal and the Bharat Container Shipping Line. As India accelerates its transition towards cleaner fuels, green ports and sustainable shipping, the engagement underscored the strong potential for India–Hamburg collaboration in building a sustainable, innovative and future-ready maritime ecosystem.

A meeting between the Joint Secretary (International Cooperation), Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, and the Maritime Counsellor, Danish Maritime Authority, was held at Transport Bhawan.

The discussions focused on preparations for the proposed visit of the Minister from Denmark to India in the first week of November 2026 and the potential Joint Working Group (JWG) Meeting scheduled for the last week of November 2026.
