Sixth Positive Indigenisation List Notified👇

In yet another impetus to the indigenisation of defence production in the country, the Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence has notified the Sixth Positive Indigenisation List comprising 405 strategically important defence items with an estimated business potential of ₹3,070 crore.

Since the launch of the SRIJAN Defence Portal, over 33,000 defence items have been offered for indigenisation, with 15,700+ items successfully indigenised, resulting in an estimated import substitution value of about ₹9,000 crore over the last five years.

The step will promote the ambitious initiative of self-reliance in defence production under the Aatmanirbharata initiative and further enhance opportunities for Indian industry to strengthen the domestic defence production ecosystem and contribute to reducing import dependency.

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) made a presentation to Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri Devendra Fadnavis on 13 Aug 2026. Secretary (Defence Production), Ministry of Defence, Shri Sanjeev Kumar was also present during the presentation.

Secretary (DP) highlighted India’s shipbuilding ambitions, the potential for maritime industrial development, MDL’s contribution to the sector, and Maharashtra’s significant role in advancing the vision of Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.

Dr. Garima Bhagat, Joint Secretary (Land Systems), DDP, launched the 100% indigenous ‘GARUD’ High Resolution Binoculars at DPSU Bhawan, New Delhi, on 13 August 2026, marking India Optel Limited’s entry into the civilian optics market.

Developed and manufactured by Ordnance Factory, Dehradun, a unit of India Optel Limited, GARUD builds on a service-proven binocular platform trusted by the Armed Forces and CAPFs, bringing defence-grade optical expertise and indigenous technology closer to citizens. The launch reflects the spirit of , showcasing India’s growing capabilities in indigenous design and defence manufacturing.

The 5th India-Russia Army Land System Sub-Group (ALSSG) meeting under the aegis of the India-Russia Intergovernmental Commission on Military & Military Technical Cooperation (IRIGC-M&MTC) was held in New Delhi from 04–07 Aug 2026.

The meeting aims to further strengthen the longstanding bilateral defence partnership between the two nations. Lt Gen Rahul R Singh, DCOAS (CD&S), along with Dr Garima Bhagat Joint Secretary (Land Systems), Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence led the Indian delegation. Maj Gen Tufekchi Aleksandr, Deputy Head of the Main Armoured Directorate, Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, headed the Russian delegation.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing mutual Defence Industrial and Technological Cooperation.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh addressed the 85th AFHQ Civilian Services Day celebrations today, on 03 August 2026 in New Delhi, emphasising that stronger military-civil integration is vital for building a resilient defence ecosystem to effectively address emerging security and technological challenges. Reaffirming the shared commitment of the uniformed and civilian services towards 'Nation First', Raksha Mantri highlighted the pivotal role of AFHQ Civilian Services in strategic thinking, research, innovation and effective defence management.

During the event, Raksha Mantri launched several digital initiatives to strengthen governance and service delivery, released the 34th edition of the Samvad magazine, and felicitated AFHQ personnel for excellence in sports and other fields, along with meritorious children of employees for their outstanding academic achievements.

In the National Seminar on ‘Military Explosives and Propellants: Safety and Compliance’ held today, on 31st July 2026 at Dr APJ Abdul Kalam DRDO Golden Jubilee Auditorium, Pune, organised by under the aegis of DDP, an engaging session on Policy for Explosives Safety was conducted with Dr. Garima Bhagat, JS (LS) and Shri Prakash Rajpurohit, JS (DIP) as the prime speakers in the session.

Both the speakers gave a thrust on expanding indigenous defence explosive manufacturing capability while preserving the highest standards of safety norms. A threadbare discussion was held during the session with all the stakeholders engaged in the defence explosive sector.

A National Seminar on ‘Military Explosives and Propellants: Safety and Compliance’ was held today, 31st July 2026 at Dr APJ Abdul Kalam DRDO Golden Jubilee Auditorium, Pune, organised by under the aegis of DDP. The seminar brought together Government, industry, and academia to strengthen safety, regulatory compliance, and self-reliance in defence explosives and propellants. More than 400 participants from private industry, DPSUs, DRDO, PESO, QA agencies and the Armed Forces attended the seminar.

Shri Sanjeev Kumar, Secretary (Defence Production), delivered the keynote address and emphasised the paramount importance of safety in the field of explosives and optimisation of storage area. Secretary (DP) also urged CFEES, PESO and DGQA to work in close coordination to facilitate faster industrial licensing in the defence manufacturing sector.

Among others Dr Garima Bhagat, JS (LS), Shri Prakash Rajpurohit, JS (DIP) and Shri N Manoharan, DG, DGQA also spoke on policy on explosive safety for building a strong safety culture across defense manufacturing.
