NHLML, fully owned subsidiary of NHAI, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has requested Council of Architecture, India to host and conduct a design competition on their behalf for the design of bus shelters on highways across the country. COA is proud to be associated with NHAI, MoRTH. This is a first time that Govt.has invited COA to get involved in procurement of talent across the country. A small step in the right direction.
Since this is an ideas completion it is inclusive of general public and is being held in two categories. Please give wide publicity and make this a grand success.
The brochure can be downloaded from https://www.coa.gov.in/design_competition_national_highways.php

As the basic medium in which we architects work is “Space”, I decided to explore it through the audio visual medium of a film called “URU – the space”.
Though this Space, in which everyone and everything exists, is such an important constituent of our lives, we seem to take it for granted and thereby have become very insensitive to it.
This film explores the multiple dimensions of our day to day space with many examples. It probes into the relationship of our outer, measurable, physical space of action with our inner, immeasurable, psychological space of thought. It finds that both these spaces are constantly influencing and expressing each other. So, can the quality of our outer space help in improving the quality of our lives and that of our inner space ?
The film questions … Can our true understanding of space help us to live with compassion, empathy, tolerance and unity ?
I share the following two links on youtube for viewing in English and Marathi.
URU English - https://youtu.be/WZu7ia7Brqw
URU Marathi - https://youtu.be/1tol3naiLdo
Do see it on a large screen (may be a class viewing) in an undisturbed mode.
Best wishes for better understanding of space and architecture.

Coa social remembers the special session of dialogues with legendary structural and civil engineer Mr. Mahendra Raj as he revisits his long and illustrious career bringing finesse to various structures across India.
COA Social Congratulates Ar.Gita Balakrishnan founder of Ethos foundation embarked upon a 1700-kilometre journey on foot from Kolkata to New Delhi from 13th February 2022 and reached Delhi on April 23, 2022.
The walk was aimed to take thoughtful, empathetic and sustainable design ideas to the masses and was an opportunity to identify action areas through interaction with communities in villages, towns and cities along the way and throw open the ideas/ challenges to Architects/designers to act.
Architecture has always been a response to change, adapting to the language of its time. Whether it was the rebirth of the classical style during the Renaissance period, the rise of steel during the Industrial Revolution, the pyramids of Giza epitomizing the might of an entire civilization or the soaring glass towers of today's cities - architecture has been ever-adapting and accommodating.
At present, concerns have shifted from the form of a building to its footprint on the environment. This era of environmental awareness has been a catalyst for two major changes in architectural thinking: an increased concern over climate change and a focus on sustainable and eco-friendly techniques. Buildings are adapting to the shift, incorporating new technologies and materials and some old ones in new ways.
For this issue of Architecture Time Space & People, we are looking for entries that showcase architecture that is deeply rooted and 'adapt'ed to its geographic, social, historical, demographic and climatic context.
Entries will be accepted on a rolling basis. To submit and for further information reach out to [email protected] and [email protected].

'Architecture Time Space & People’ has been a platform for the architectural fraternity to collaborate, converse and exchange innovative, offbeat and revolutionary ideas, stories and projects since time immemorial. Revival of the magazine is seen as an opportunity to ‘reacquaint’ and reestablish a dialogue between architects across the country.
We are now accepting submissions discussing the effects and outcomes of COVID-19 on architectural production, education, culture, profession, environment and technology. Curated in the aftermath of the pandemic, the intent is to also ‘reacquaint’ ourselves to the history and the contemporary with a vision for the future.
To submit entries or for more information, contact the Publication Department at [email protected] and [email protected].
