Why in News👇
Amid the Israel-Palestine conflict, the night sky over Israel has been ablaze with interceptor missiles from Iron Dome shooting down the incoming rockets in the sky.

What is Iron Dome❓

👉Iron Dome is a multi-mission system capable of intercepting rockets, artillery, mortars and Precision Guided Munitionsas well as aircraft, helicopters and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) over short ranges of up to 70 km.

👉It is an all-weather system and can engage multiple targets simultaneously and can be deployed over land and sea.

👉Iron Dome is jointly manufactured by Rafael Advanced Systems and has been in service with Israeli Air Force since 2011.

👉The radar system was developed by Elta.

Working of Iron Dome❓

👉An Iron Dome battery consists of a battle management control unit, a detection and tracking radar and a firing unit of three vertical launchers, with 20 interceptor missiles each.

👉The interceptor missile uses a proximity fuse to detonate the target warhead in the air.
One of the system's important advantages is its ability to identify the anticipated point of impact of the threatening rocket, to calculate whether it will fall in a built-up area or not, and to decide on this basis whether or not to engage it.

👉This prevents unnecessary interception of rockets that will fall in open areas and thus not cause damage, the paper states.
The system has intercepted thousands of rockets so far and, according to Rafael Advanced Systems, its success rate is over 90%.

Limitations of the system❓

👉The system can see limitations when it is overwhelmed with a barrage of projectiles.
👉The system has a 'saturation point'.

👉It is capable of engaging a certain number of targets at the same time, and no more.
One of the possible limitations is the system's inability to cope with very short range threats as estimates put the Iron Dome's minimum interception range at 5-7 kilometres.

👉It is widely regarded as the national river of Russia.

2) Danube River

👉South-east of Mexico, the North American continent tapers southwards through a narrow ISTHMUS which connects North and South America and embraces seven small countries known collectively as Central America.

👉Five of the countries Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama have sea coast on both the sides— the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean (Caribbean Sea).

👉The other two countries have coasts on the one side only. EL Salvador has coast on the Pacific side and Belize on the Atlantic side. Geographic fragmentation is the major characteristic of Central America.

✌️Panama remain always in news because it is one of the tax heaven country.

🛑I tried to connect all the information but it is impossible to think about ancient civilizations while studying map, that's why if you see any location in news then try to correlate it with previous year questions because meanwhile you are thinking of geography they will ask you question related to History, polity, economy as well, so it's kind of holistic study requirement.
And always see things through examination perspective.

Direct question in UP PCS exam.
👉Union Environment Ministry has committed to rejuvenate 50 lakh hectares (5 million) of degraded land between 2021 and 2030.

👉A Centre for Excellence would be set up in Dehradun for land degradation neutrality.
Land Degradation Neutrality

🌍Land degradation neutrality (LDN) is a condition where further land degradation (loss of productivity caused by environmental or human factors) is prevented and already degraded land can be restored.

👉LDN has been defined by the Parties to the Convention as:
– A state whereby the amount and quality of land resources, necessary to support ecosystem functions and services and enhance food security, remains stable or increases within specified temporal and spatial scales and ecosystems.

✒️India’s initiatives:
👉India became part of the “Bonn Challenge”, a global effort to bring 150 million hectares of the world’s deforested and degraded land into restoration by 2020, and 350 million hectares by 2030.

👉India’s pledge is one of the largest in Asia.

👉Schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, Soil Health Card Scheme, Soil Health Management Scheme and Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana are seen as prongs to tackle this land degradation.

Back2Basics👇

👉United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD)Established in 1994, the UNCCD is the only legally binding international agreement linking environment and development issues to the land agenda.

👉It addresses specifically the arid, semi-arid and dry sub-humid areas, known as the drylands, where some of the most vulnerable ecosystems and peoples can be found.

👉2006 was declared “International Year of Deserts and Desertification”.

why👉Pakistan government has recently announced that it would give the Gilgit-Baltistan region "provisional provincial status". When that happens, G-B will become the sixth official province of Pakistan.

📌Gilgit-Baltistan
👉Gilgit-Baltistan is the northernmost territory administered by Pakistan, providing the country's only territorial frontier, and thus a land route, with China, where it meets the Xinjiang Autonomous Region.
👉The region is an illegally occupied Indian territory as it was the part of the erstwhile princely state of Jammu & Kashmir as it existed in 1947 at its accession to India.
👉To G-B's west is Afghanistan, to its south is Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, and to the east J&K.
