The CPI (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation is an Indian communist party born in ferment of the Naxalbari uprising of May 1967. The Naxalbari uprising put the most oppressed sections of India’s people firmly on the map of Indian politics and in the driving seat of Indian revolution – and in doing so established continuity with the historic communist-led peasant movements of Punnapra-Wayalar and Telangan

a. The party was founded on the birth anniversary of Lenin, April 22 1969, committing itself to applying Marxism-Leninism in Indian conditions. The CPI(ML) emerged as the firm defender of the revolutionary legacy of India’s communist movement, resisting revisionism as well as anarchist currents in the Indian communist movement. Right from the outset it braved the most brutal custodial torture and killings that claimed an entire generation of its leaders including its founding General Secretary Charu Mazumdar. The CPI(ML) Liberation since its earliest days developed a model of class struggle that championed questions of dignity and equality of the oppressed castes and women. The CPI(ML) Liberation currently has elected representatives in the Assemblies of Bihar and Jharkhand, and leads movements of workers, peasants and various sections of people all over India. The CPI(ML)’s representatives in Parliament and Assemblies have played the role of a revolutionary Opposition. The CPI(ML) upholds the best of India’s traditions of anti-imperialist nationalism. In its approach to relations with neighbouring countries as well as to internal nationality questions, the party has been consistent in its opposition to every kind of national chauvinism and jingoism. The CPI(ML) has, from its inception, been at the forefront of struggles to expand and deepen India’s democracy. The CPI(ML) consistently resists state repression, fights for the abolition of draconian laws, fights for the annihilation of caste, resists gender violence, racism and homophobia and struggles against corporate plunder of land and resources. It is committed to resisting the growing communal fascism in India with all its might.

Condemn the violent attack on press freedom.

Anandabazar Patrika had reported the Sangh brigade's midnight attack on Jadavpur University with the caption "Saffron Hooliganism". The ruling establishment responded first by filing an FIR against the papers's editor and senior journalists. And today Sanghi thugs vindicated the caption by staging another show of saffron hooliganism and vandalism in the newspaper's office.

The state committee of Communist Party of India -Marxist Leninist- Liberation CPIML has issued the following statement condemning this violent attack on press freedom.

Defeat the Manusmriti Mindset: Condemn the Casteist Attack on Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Reject the Vindictive FIR Against Rahul Gandhi.

(Statement issued by Dipankar Bhattacharya, General Secretary, CPI(ML) Liberation, September 1, 2026)

Veteran Congress leader and currently President of India's biggest opposition party, Mallikarjun Kharge faced the Sangh brigade's hate-filled casteist mindset in Uttarakhand. The Sangh brigade conducted a 'shuddhikaran havan' (purification ritual) at Ramlila Maidan in Haldwani after Kharge had delivered a speech. Kharge ji flagged this issue in Parliament and subsequently Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi rightly demanded a police case against this shocking case of caste discrimination under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act. The so-called purification exercise was nothing but practice of untouchability by other means.

Ironically now Rahul Gandhi himself faces the allegation of caste discrimination with an FIR lodged against him at the Haldwani police station! How can demanding justice against the practice of untouchability be construed as an atrocity?

Ever since Rahul Gandhi challenged the Manusmriti mindset, first in the context of women's freedom in his Pune meeting and then condemning the Haldwani episode in a subsequent press conference, we can see palpable discomfort and even anger and ridicule in the Godi Media and a veritable 'Save Manusmriti' campaign by certain sections.
The mention of Manusmriti as a patriarchal and casteist code of slavery and institutionalised or ritualised injustice is being projected as selective 'anti-Hindu prejudice'. Ram Madhav described Manusmriti as an ancient moral code which has little relevance in today's era of the Constitution.

Nobody would have been discussing the Manusmriti today had it really been just an ancient scripture or archaic code without any connotation for India's contemporary social and cultural milieu. It is instructive to remember that twenty-two years before the Constitution of India was adopted by the Constituent Assembly, Babasaheb Ambedkar had publicly rejected and burnt the Manusmriti on 25 December 1927. The journey of the Indian Constitution had begun with the explicit rejection of the Manusmriti.

The antagonism between the Manusmriti and the Constitution did not end with the adoption of the Constitution. In fact, the RSS had reacted to the Constitution by editorially rejecting it in its mouthpiece Organiser, calling it a document with nothing Indian about it and describing the Manusmriti as India's authentic and ideal constitutional foundation. The ban on the RSS was lifted by Sardar Patel only after the RSS gave written assurance to accept the Constitution and the National Flag.
The relentless subversion and violation of the Constitution by the Modi government and the Sangh brigade and the continuing celebration of the Manusmriti mindset whether by way of rewarding of r**e convicts or conducting of purification rituals to insult leaders of Dalit origin however tell us that the war between the Manusmriti and the Constitution is far from over. In this context, it is also pertinent to take note of the meeting between Union Minister JP Nadda and leaders of the anti-reservation movement.

Only a complete and firm rejection of the patriarchal and casteist moral code, call it the Brahmanical order or the Manusmriti mindset, can advance India towards a true fulfillment of the Constitutional goal of a sovereign socialist secular democratic republic and the motto of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity.

Revolutionary salute to Comrade Pradeep Prabhu!

The Adivasi movement in the country has lost one of its activists and tall leaders. Com. Pradeep Prabhu’s life and contribution to the struggles of tribal workers will remain an enduring part of our movement’s history.

His health had been failing for some time. He received the best possible medical care, and Shiraz stood by him with extraordinary courage and determination, fighting till the very end. Revolutionary salute to Comrade Pradeep. His commitment to the struggles of the oppressed and his contribution to the Adivasi movement will continue to inspire us.

We are deeply saddened by the horrific flash floods along the Bhote Koshi River in Nepal, which have swept through parts of Nuwakot and Dhading districts, causing catastrophic devastation and loss of lives. The massive floods, originating in the Tibetan region, have claimed numerous lives, including several Indian tourists, and affected hundreds of people across the border.

The flash floods have also heightened the threat of flooding downstream along the Gandak River in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The Union and state governments must immediately strengthen all necessary precautionary and relief measures to ensure the safety and protection of people living in vulnerable areas.

We express our deepest condolences to all those who have lost their loved ones and stand in solidarity with people across borders in the fragile Himalayan region, who are enduring immense suffering and devastation in the wake of this tragic disaster.

The Union government must immediately initiate all necessary efforts to evacuate stranded and affected Indian tourists in Nepal and ensure that they receive all required assistance. At the same time, India must extend all possible humanitarian, rescue and relief support to the people of Nepal in this hour of grave crisis.
