National Dam Safety Authority successfully conducted a one day national workshop on “Empowering Dam Safety: Interactive Familiarisation with RRSSD & RBSD Digital Platforms” in New Delhi on 27 May 2026 in hybrid mode with participation from stakeholders across the country.
A workshop on “Empowering Dam Safety: Interactive Familiarisation with RRSSD & RBSD Digital Platforms” was organised by the National Dam Safety Authority under the Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, on 27th May 2026 at the Auditorium of the Library Building of Central Water Commission, R.K. Puram, New Delhi. The programme was held in hybrid mode and witnessed participation from dam safety stakeholders and technical experts from across the country.
The workshop saw participation from senior officials of State Dam Safety Organisations (SDSOs), Dam Safety Units (DSUs), dam-owning agencies, Central Water Commission, National Disaster Management Authority, NHPC, SJVN, THDC, NEEPCO, UJVNL, BBMB, experts from C-DAC, and other organisations associated with dam safety and disaster management.
During the inaugural session, the Chairman, Central Water Commission, underlined the crucial role of dams in ensuring water security, supporting economic progress, and enhancing resilience against disasters. On the occasion, Shri V. L. Kantha Rao, Secretary, DoWR, RD & GR, Ministry of Jal Shakti, released the National Register of Specified Dams (NRSD) 2026 and launched the DHARMA (Dam Health and Rehabilitation & Monitoring Application) Mobile App.
The workshop centred on enhancing institutional preparedness and technical capacity in dam safety through interactive sessions on digital platforms developed by the National Dam Safety Authority, particularly Rashtriya Bandh Suraksha Darpan (RBSD) and Rapid Risk Screening of Specified Dams (RRSSD). RBSD was presented as an integrated digital platform for flood-risk awareness, dam-break analysis, and informed decision-making, while RRSSD was demonstrated as a structured framework for rapid risk assessment, identification of vulnerable dams, and prioritisation of detailed investigations through a standardised methodology.
Live demonstrations of the DHARMA Mobile Application were also conducted during the workshop. In addition, technical sessions were organised on alert generation, dissemination, and information flow mechanisms for dam-related incidents, including integration with the CAP–SACHET system of National Disaster Management Authority. Representatives from various States also shared their experiences and best practices related to dam safety initiatives and digital interventions.
The workshop underscored the growing role of digital and technology-driven solutions in enhancing dam safety surveillance, strengthening emergency response systems, and improving overall disaster preparedness in the country. It also reflected the continued commitment of the National Dam Safety Authority towards effective implementation of the Dam Safety Act, 2021 through institutional capacity building, technological innovation, and coordinated dam safety management initiatives.
