The capital of Hansraj and a college feature that every other college in university is envious about. Colleges in Oxford and Harvard are planning to have replicas of LP’S in their colleges as well. Well you are a social misfit in college if you are not seen in LP. Relationships make and break while Nescafe makes money in this cool hang out point. When a college has a Lovers Point (LP) with an in-built sutta point, students don’t have to venture out to have fun.

"By crushing people, they can't crush ideas." ~Shaheed Bhagat Singh.

On March 23 every year India celebrates (Martyrs’ Day). On this day in 1931, freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru were hanged by the British. Today it's been 90 years. Don’t let the world forget the contribution of these great men to give us a free India.
Jai hind!!!

PS- Put this status for atleast today for our true heros.

is observed on December 1, each year. It’s an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against , to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. Founded in 1988, World AIDS Day was the first-ever global health day.

The theme for World AIDS Day 2020 is “Global solidarity, shared responsibility”.

Covid-19 has demonstrated that, during a pandemic, no one is safe until everyone is safe. Leaving people behind is not an option if we are to succeed. Eliminating stigma and discrimination, putting people at the centre and grounding our responses in human rights and gender-responsive approaches are key to ending the colliding pandemics of HIV and Covid-19.

Globally, there are an estimated 38 million people who have the virus. Despite the virus only being identified in 1984, more than 35 million people have died of HIV or AIDS, making it one of the most destructive pandemics in history.

Gurupurab or Guru Nanak Jayanti celebrates the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the first among ten Sikh gurus and the founder of the Sikh religion. The festival is of special significance to the Sikh community and is one of the most eagerly awaited occasions of the year. The year 2020 marks the 551st birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.

Guru Nanak Dev was born in the year 1469 in Nankana Sahib. He was the founder of Sikhism, which is why his birth was considered nothing short of a divine miracle. His birth anniversary coincides with Kartik Purnima as per the Hindu calendar.

As per traditions, there is a 48-hour long reading of the Guru Granth Sahib held in Gurudwaras. This is also known as Akhand Path, which begins two days prior to the festival. On the day of Guru Purab, there is a procession by devotees in the early hours of the morning, known as Nagar Kirtan.

On Guru Nanak Jayanti day, it is customary to eat the community lunch or 'Langar' served in Gurudwaras. The food that is cooked is completely vegetarian and specially prepared in the communal kitchen by volunteers - an indication of the Sikh philosophy of serving others selflessly.

One of the primary principles was the belief in one God, also known as 'Ek Onkar' and submission to the will of God, or 'Waheguru'.

The birth anniversary of author and sage Maharishi Valmiki, Valmiki Jayanti is celebrated on the full moon night or Purnima of the Ashwin month. Valmiki was the first poet who had authored the epic Ramayana and first-ever Sanskrit shlokas. He is also referred to as ‘Adi Kavi’ which translates to the first poet of Sanskrit language.

Also known as Pragat Diwas, on this day many worship the poet by reciting verses of Ramayana at Valmiki temples across the country. One of the most famous temples dedicated to the sage is in Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai. It is believed that the temple, which is 1,300 years old, was the place where Valmiki rested after writing Ramayana that contains 24,000 shlokas and 7 cantos.  It is believed that when Ram banished Sita after people questioned her ‘purity’, Valmiki rescued her and provided shelter.

Deforestation is not an alien concept to us.

We all have grown up learning about it and witnessing it before our eyes, as more and more buildings replace trees and we rarely do anything about it.

But, there is one man who is changing this, by single-handedly doing something which may be unimaginable but not unachievable.

Padma Shri awardee, Jadav "Molai" Payeng, single-handedly planted an entire forest in Majuli Island in Assam, after scientists said the Island could die after a catastrophic drought.

In 1969, 16-year-old Jadav came face to face with a huge problem, when a major drought after a life-threatening flood left hundreds of snakes dead due to extreme heat.

At that time, scientists had declared the island dead within a few years.

In order to solve this, a young Jadav started planting one sapling every day in the middle of a barren wasteland in Assam.

Known as the , Jadav was able to raise a forest in a barren part of Majuli Island, spreading across 1,360 acres.

The forest, Molai, which is named after Jadav is two times larger than Central Park and is now a home to Royal Bengal tigers, elephants, rhinos, tigers, wild boars, reptiles, deer and vultures.

At that time, scientists had declared the island dead within a few years.

In order to solve this, a young Jadav started planting one sapling every day in the middle of a barren wasteland in Assam.

Jadav did this for 35 years religiously, and now his efforts have finally paid off.

Known as the Forest Man of India, Jadav was able to raise a forest in a barren part of Majuli Island, spreading across 1,360 acres.

The forest, Molai, which is named after Jadav is two times larger than Central Park and is now a home to Royal Bengal tigers, elephants, rhinos, tigers, wild boars, reptiles, deer and vultures.

To honour his hard work and perseverance, Jadav was awarded the highest civilian award, Padma Shri in 2015.

For Jadav, his forest is his family and he plans to plant 5,000 more acres of tress on Majuli, creating a 500-mile stretch of flora on the banks of Brahmaputra river.

Happy Navratri

In the eastern and northeastern states of India, the Durga Puja is synonymous with Navaratri, wherein goddess Durga battles and emerges victorious over the buffalo demon to help restore Dharma. In the northern and western states, the festival is synonymous with "Rama Lila" and Dussehra that celebrates the battle and victory of god Rama over the demon king Ravana. In southern states, the victory of different goddesses, of Rama or Saraswati is celebrated. In all cases, the common theme is the battle and victory of Good over Evil based on a regionally famous epic or legend such as the Ramayana or the Devi Mahatmya.

Celebrations include stage decorations, recital of the legend, enacting of the story, and chanting of the scriptures of Hinduism. The nine days are also a major crop season cultural event, such as competitive design and staging of pandals, a family visit to these pandals and the public celebration of classical and folk dances of Hindu culture. On the final day, called the Vijayadashami or Dussehra, the statues are either immersed in a water body such as river and ocean, or alternatively the statue symbolizing the evil is burnt with fireworks marking evil's destruction. The festival also starts the preparation for one of the most important and widely celebrated holidays, Diwali, the festival of lights, which is celebrated twenty days after the Vijayadashami or Dussehra or Dashain.
