The mission of ENVIS is to provide access to and enhance the use of environment related information in India as well as the rest of the world, advancing understanding of different environment related issues and indirectly serving the needs of public and private decision making. ENVIS is a network that unites around hundred organizations in India, known as ENVIS Nodes. It is dedicated to providing

comprehensive, up-to-date environmental information and news. ENVIS exists solely to act as an information broker for environmental information in India. ENVIS network offers a mother portal which acts as a platform for inter nodal interaction. The entire portal has been designed and organized to provide with easy access to the multitude of environment related information available with the ENVIS Nodes.

SPA–EIACP PC RP on Human Settlements and their Impact on Environment actively participated in a
day SAMBHAV Culmination Event held on 28th March 2026. The event, organised by TERI–EIACP PC
RP, aimed to sensitise participants towards the principles of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment),
with a focus on reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainable alternatives. It marked the
successful conclusion of a series of awareness and community engagement activities conducted
under the SAMBHAV campaign. The event was graced by the presence of Ms. Nameeta Prasad, Joint
Secretary, MoEF&CC and Ms. Lipika Roy, Joint Director, MoEF&CC.
During the event, SPA–EIACP showcased a variety of knowledge products, including a kid’s booklet on
various themes, newsletters, a compilation of success stories on the single-use plastic ban, thematic
timetables on single-use plastics, air quality index and wetlands, as well as special publications on
green belt and tolerant vegetation. A quiz and interactive game session based on Mission LiFE
concepts emerged as a key highlight, engaging over 300 school students and helping them
understand how everyday habits impact the environment.
To promote eco-friendly practices and encourage active participation in reducing their ecological
footprints, students were provided with Kid’s booklets on Human Settlements and Informative
Timetables. Overall, the team sensitised around 700 individuals, and the stall received appreciation
from visiting dignitaries.

The valedictory programme of the Two–Day Workshop on “Carrying Capacity and Hill Area Planning”, organized by EIACP PC-HUB, HIMCOSTE, Shimla in collaboration with SPA–EIACP PC-RP, New Delhi, was held today on 1st March 2026 at the CSLC – Science Museum, Shoghi, Shimla. The sessions aimed to provide valuable insights into sustainable planning approaches and the importance of assessing carrying capacity in environmentally sensitive hill regions.

The valedictory session was addressed by Prof. Dr. Meenakshi Dhote, Dean (Academics) & Coordinator, SPA-EIACP, and Dr. Suresh C. Attri, Joint Member Secretary-cum-Coordinator, EIACP, highlighting key outcomes and learnings from the workshop followed by certificate distribution to participants.

SPA-EIACP PC RP in collaboration with EIACP PC Hub, HIMCOSTE, Shimla is organising a two-day Capacity Building Programme on *Carrying Capacity and Hill Area Planning*

Today marked the first day of the workshop, which featured our expert, Shri M.S. Thakur, at the Centre for Science Learning and Creativity (CSLC) in Shoghi, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.

The primary participants of the workshop include students from Shoolini University and another university. A total of 58 participants attended the session on the first day.

During the workshop, the students were introduced to the concepts of carrying capacity in hilly regions, both in India and globally. They discussed the importance of conducting carrying capacity assessments, particularly in hilly areas.

A successful completion with certificates & kits distribution!

The training concluded on Day 5 with full attendance of 20 women participants.

The final production included 20 tassels, 15 medium pouches, and 10 key chains. During the valedictory session, certificates were awarded to all participants, and tailoring kits were distributed as support for continuing skill practice and livelihood generation.

The programme successfully empowered women through sustainable skill development and fabric upcycling practices.

Day 4 focused on home utility products made through upcycled fabric. With continued participation of 20 women, the group created 7 table mats, 8 cushion covers, and 4 small pouches. The practical learning encouraged sustainable production, creativity, and confidence-building among participants while strengthening their tailoring capabilities.
