This is the decade of action and this year will enable us to accelerate progress towards the localisation of SDGs and a sustainable future for the human kind. You will together orchestrate a pro youth vision to ensure a thriving and equitable future for all.
Our process of urbanisation is beginning. The cities we make have to be sustainable, for public transportation, cycling and walking, cities that recycle waste and water, where citizens are able to interact with each other and where challenges and opportunities impact and benefit the youth.

, an unexpected outcome of modernization is followed by economic changes related to well-being, , leisure, social engagements, and . Amid rapid urbanization in , urban villages, periurban areas, and villages need to identify their growth.
This will make urbanization uniform while meeting the needs of societies and people. Nestled within a host city or at the fringes are unique brown-field planning zones representing a contradiction with the regular urban plans and local planning regimes, quite abruptly standing outside of the city’s mainstream building and urban design regulations and guidelines despite their inextricable link to the city’s climate, production and culture.
These in-between zones have a fluidity to bridge the urban-rural divide and have converted into unique character areas to play a vital supportive role for cities and demand to be looked through the lens of and and documented as examples of variance.
is on its way to transitioning towards being more urbanized and the belief that India lives in villages and not in cities is changing rapidly. The new trends call for more attention towards our policies and while the broader framework of the policy discourse is that cities no longer remain a reflection of poverty or bottlenecks; but should become the symbols of efficiency speed, and scale.
It is time to look at urbanization as an opportunity rather than a threat. The overall urban policy must have three distinct focus: improve living conditions, increase urban investment, and, better management and governance.
Leave NO one BEHIND. The National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) has signed an with Urban Village Charitable Trust to develop a vision for for urban , periurban areas, and villages, through shared research and programs that bring together the intellect of professionals and academia towards a better tomorrow.
