California Quail (Callipepla californica) is a charming ground bird native to the western United States. Easily recognized by its comma-shaped, forward-curving crest, this quail often travels in small family groups called coveys. Its soft gray and brown feathers provide excellent camouflage in grasslands and woodlands. Known for its cheerful “chi-ca-go” call, the California Quail is also the official state bird of California, admired for its beauty and social nature.
