My love for astronomy, space and the Universe goes a longgg way back, when I was a child. One of my favorite jobs has been to spend hours night-sky viewing through telescopes with students, a job that I can never get tired of!
When we think of Astrobiology, the first thing that usually comes to mind is "Aliens! Extraterrestial Life! Life on Mars!" or human body-based questions like "Can we cry or fart in space?! How do astronauts p**p?!"
While I was scouting for some latest happenings in this field, the recent developments are really exciting. Though Astrobiology is being majorly studied for the past 2 decades abroad, it has taken a new turn in today's times. Apart from the academic viewpoint, tremendous entrepreneurial potential lies in this field today! Though India has initiated some Astrobiology programs, ISRO does not have one. But I am sure the day it starts, Indian students will throng for that opportunity in thousands, if not more! Because Everybody Loves Space! Currently, several space entrepreneurs have taken up interesting initiatives to send non-biological payloads to space, however, a huge opportunity is left to explore Biotechnological Applications in Space. And mind you, none of it is mere story-telling or waste of money, but holds commercial potential as well.
So,
To all the esteemed scientists and entrepreneurs in my connections, here is a novel opportunity to explore and expand the paradigms of this yet-to-be-explored world!
And,
Happy Teacher's Day to all!
