Phuntsokling Tibetan Settlement Releases 1,025 kg of Fish During Saka Dawa as Part of Year of Compassion Observance
As part of the Year of Compassion celebration, Phuntsokling Tibetan Settlement in Odisha organised a life release programme during the auspicious month of Saka Dawa, the fourth month of the Tibetan calendar.
To support this initiative, the Department of Religion and Culture (CTA) contributed INR 15,000, the local Tibetan Cooperative Society contributed INR 10,000, and members of Phuntsokling Tibetan Settlement generously donated a total of INR 275,000, bringing the overall contribution to INR 300,000.
With these funds, the five members of the Odisha Phuntsokling Local Ghoton Organising Committee travelled to Vijayawada, approximately 616 kilometres from the settlement, on the 14th, 15th, and 16th days of Saka Dawa to carry out a fish life release programme.
On the 14th day of the Tibetan calendar, 250 kilograms of fish were released; on the 15th day, 409 kilograms were released; and on the 16th day, a further 366 kilograms were released. Altogether, 1,025 kilograms of fish were released over the course of these three auspicious days.
The merit generated through this life release offering was dedicated to the long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the flourishing of the Buddha Dharma, and the peace, harmony, and well-being of all sentient beings.
