REPORT ON CIVIL DEFENCE AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON DISASTER MANAGEMENT

The NSS Unit of Digboi Mahila Mahavidyalaya organized a Civil Defence Awareness Programme on the topic “Disaster Management” on 25 June 2026 in the college premises. The programme aimed to create awareness among students regarding disaster preparedness, risk reduction, and effective response during emergencies.

The programme was graced by Mr. Manash Jyoti Panging as the Resource Person. He delivered an informative lecture on various types of natural and man-made disasters and emphasized the importance of preparedness and community participation in disaster management. He explained the causes and impacts of disasters such as floods, earthquakes, landslides, fires, and cyclones, and discussed preventive measures to minimize loss of life and property.

During the session, Mr. Panging highlighted the role of Civil Defence volunteers in emergency situations and demonstrated basic safety measures that individuals should adopt during disasters. He encouraged students to remain alert, informed, and ready to assist others during times of crisis. The programme also focused on building resilience and promoting a culture of safety within the community.

An awareness programme on Mental Health was successfully organised on 20th December 2025 at Room No. 19, Digboi Mahila Mahavidyalaya by the NSS Unit and the Women Cell of the college. The programme aimed to create awareness among students regarding the importance of mental well-being and to remove the stigma associated with mental health issues.

The programme was graced by the presence of Dr. Sanjita Chetia, Principal of Digboi Mahila Mahavidyalaya, who attended the session and encouraged students to prioritise mental health along with academic excellence. Her presence added significance to the programme and motivated the participants.

The session was conducted by Mrs. Sikha Talukdar, Counsellor, who served as the Resource Person. She delivered an insightful and engaging talk on various aspects of mental health, including stress, anxiety, depression, emotional well-being, and coping mechanisms. She highlighted the importance of self-care, seeking timely help, and maintaining a healthy balance between personal and academic life.

An interactive discussion followed the lecture, where students actively participated by sharing their concerns and asking questions. An awareness programme titled “City Hounded by Strays, Kids Pay the Price” was successfully
conducted on 20th December 2025 at Room No. 19, Digboi Mahila Mahavidyalaya. The
programme was jointly organised by the NSS Unit and the Women Cell of the college with the
objective of sensitising students and staff about the growing issue of stray animals in urban
areas and its serious impact on children and public safety.
The session was enriched by the presence of Dr. Neelakshi Baruah as the Resource Person.
Dr. Baruah delivered an informative and thought-provoking talk highlighting the causes behind
the increasing stray population, the risks faced by children, and the responsibilities of society
and local authorities. She emphasised humane and sustainable solutions such as awareness,
vaccination, sterilisation, proper waste management, and community participation.
The programme witnessed active participation from students, faculty members, and NSS
volunteers. An interactive discussion followed the lecture, where participants shared concerns,
experiences, and suggestions related to the issue. Dr. Baruah addressed the queries patiently
and encouraged students to act as responsible citizens and volunteers in creating safer and
more compassionate urban spaces.

Health Screening Test Programme was successfully conducted on 20th December 2025 at
Room No. 19, Digboi Mahila Mahavidyalaya. The programme was jointly organised by the NSS
Unit and the Women Cell of the college with the aim of promoting health awareness and early
detection of common health issues among the college community.
The programme was graced by the presence of Dr. Sanjita Chetia, Principal of Digboi Mahila
Mahavidyalaya, who highlighted the importance of regular health check-ups and maintaining a
healthy lifestyle. She appreciated the initiative taken by the NSS Unit and Women Cell for
organising such a meaningful programme for the well-being of all.
Dr. Neelakshi Baruah conducted the health screening tests and provided valuable medical
guidance. The screening included basic health check-ups and general health assessment,
