Report on Meditation and Zumba Programme under the 10th Foundation Day Lecture Series and NSS Special Camp Programme, SGSC Chakung
A meditation and Zumba programme titled “Meditation Session and Zumba for Health and Well-being for Our Young Minds” was successfully organized at Sikkim Government Science College , Chakung(SGSC), as part of the 10th Foundation Day Lecture Series and the NSS Special Camp Programme. The programme was organized by the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) in collaboration with the NCC, Health and Wellbeing Cell, and NSS Unit, SGSC Chakung, with the objective of promoting physical fitness, mental wellness, and holistic development among students.
The programme witnessed the presence of the Principal, the Vice Principal, Dean of Students’ Affairs, Heads of various Departments, teaching and non-teaching faculty members, along with NSS volunteers and NCC cadets and students of the college.
The programme began with a welcome address delivered by the NSS Programme Officer, Mr. Jiwan S***a, Head of the Department of Physics, who emphasized the importance of maintaining a balance between academic responsibilities and personal wellbeing. He highlighted the role of NSS activities in shaping disciplined, socially responsible, and health-conscious individuals.
The first session of the programme consisted of an Anapana meditation session conducted by the Principal, Dr. I.M. Upreti, who guided participants through mindful breathing practices aimed at enhancing concentration, emotional stability, and inner calmness. She stressed the importance of mental health in academic performance and encouraged students to adopt meditation as a regular practice to manage stress and improve focus. The session created a peaceful and reflective atmosphere, allowing participants to experience relaxation and mindfulness.
The programme then moved into the second session, an energetic Zumba activity conducted by NSS volunteers Anjali S***a, Serima S***a Limbu, Edden Gurung, and Soviksha Rai, along with NCC Cadet Prasansha Thapa Manger. The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members, promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and active engagement while reinforcing the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The final session was conducted by the NSS Programme Officer, Mr. Jiwan S***a, who delivered a presentation on the topic, “How National Service Scheme can play an integral role to achieve the goal of Holistic Development of Learner (Student) as per NEP 2020.” During the presentation, he elaborated on the objectives of NSS and explained how community engagement, leadership development, social responsibility, and experiential learning contribute to the holistic development envisioned under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The programme concluded successfully with active participation from all attendees, reinforcing the importance of health, wellbeing, and balanced growth for young minds.
