We express extreme disappointment regarding the display of our State Butterfly of Sikkim ‘The Blue Duke’ Bassarona Durga, during the Sikkim Utsav an initiative of the Commerce & Industries Department Government Of Sikkim organised under the RAMP scheme of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises,Government of India

The event was being held from June 5th till June 7th’2026 at MG Marg Gangtok. In an era of technological convenience such errors is regarded as an utter carelessness. We do not expect such negligence from an esteemed Government institutions organising such a grand event.

The butterfly displayed during the event at MG Marg is not Blue Duke and therefore it reflects wrong information to the public. Distributing wrong information among the public is not acceptable by such distinguished department of the government.

Our State Butterfly, the Blue Duke, completed 4 Glorious Years of declaration just few days back.
It was declared as the State Butterfly of Sikkim on 5th June 2022, World Environment Day at Saramsa Garden by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim Shri. Prem Singh Tamang Golay.
As a symbol of Sikkim’s rich natural heritage, the Blue Duke reminds us of the importance of conserving our forests, native plants, and biodiversity.

Let us take pride in our State Butterfly and work together to learn about it, protect its habitat, and inspire future generations to value the incredible natural wealth of Sikkim. But sharing wrong information is not going to support this target.

We request all concerned to please correct the mistake immediately through a press release or any form of public statement to be circulated.

We also request as well as expect no such mistakes in future by any such esteemed Government institutions which is an expression of huge disrespect to State Symbols.

For photographs and information regarding the State Butterfly, we the Butterfly Society Of Sikkim are graciously ready to help to all interested.

🦋 Our State Butterfly, the Blue Duke, Completes 4 Glorious Years! 🦋

Today marks four glorious years since the declaration of the Blue Duke as the State Butterfly of Sikkim by our Hon’ble Chief Minister, Sh. , Prem Singh Tamang-Golay , on the auspicious occasion of World Environment Day, 5th June 2022.

Nature is everything. It is the foundation of our existence and the source of our well-being. When the natural environment is healthy, we thrive—physically, mentally, and emotionally. We can sing, dance, dream, work, and contribute meaningfully to society. Yes, we can even do politics. But without a healthy environment, none of it is sustainable.

Therefore, let us take the time to understand the natural world around us—what needs to be conserved, what must be preserved, and why. Conservation is not merely about creating rules and restrictions; it is about maintaining the delicate balance of nature that supports all life.

On this World Environment Day, let us move beyond celebration and embrace responsibility. Every action we take today will shape the future of our forests, rivers, wildlife, and communities.

🌎 Wishing everyone not just a Happy World Environment Day, but a Responsible World Environment Day.

On the auspicious occasion of Sikkim Statehood Day, we, the entire team of Butterfly Society Of Sikkim - TPCF , extend our heartfelt greetings and warm wishes to the people of our beautiful Himalayan state.

Today, we proudly showcase the State Butterfly of Sikkim — a symbol that is not just a beautiful butterfly, but an iconic representation of the unity, peace, harmony, and rich natural heritage of Sikkim. From the majestic Mt. Khangchendzonga to the lifelines Teesta and Rangit rivers, from our lush forests to the vibrant biodiversity of our land, this butterfly reflects the soul of Sikkim itself.

As we celebrate this historic day, let us continue to inspire and guide the younger generation towards protecting nature, preserving our culture, and building a stronger, greener, and more prosperous Sikkim together.

May the spirit of unity, peace, and progress always shine across our beloved state.

Nowadays, our State Butterfly of Sikkim, the Blue Duke, is not just a state icon anymore — it has become a great attraction and a symbol of awareness for nature and biodiversity. Its beauty is now being showcased in schools, parks, and many public places, inspiring people to learn about butterflies and their importance in our ecosystem.

It truly makes me feel proud to witness and share such beautiful moments with everyone.

This picture is from Tathang School under Yuksom–Tashiding Constituency, West Sikkim.

On behalf of the Butterfly Society Of Sikkim - TPCF , I would like to sincerely thank all the teaching and non-teaching staff of the school for creating such a beautiful artwork on your school premises and for supporting butterfly awareness and conservation. 🦋💚
