The Fourth Board of the Gangtok Municipal Corporation (GMC) was officially constituted today, with the newly elected councillors taking the oath of office and secrecy. The oath was administered by District Collector Tushar G. Nikhare to Mayor Tshering Palden Bhutia, Deputy Mayor Sara Lama , and all elected councillors.
The programme was attended by Hon'ble Ministers Shri Arun Upreti and Shri G.T. Dhungel, Hon'ble MLAs Smt Kala Rai, Shri Delay Namgyal Barfungpa, and Shri Tenzing Norbu Lamtha, along with Secretary-cum-Commissioner of the Urban Development Department Jitendra Singh Raje, Gayden Chopel (Garry) Gangtok Municipal Commissioner, SIMFED Chairman Tenzing Dorjee Bhutia, senior market officials, and other dignitaries.
Following the oath-taking ceremony, the Hon'ble Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and councillors formally assumed office, marking the formation of the fourth GMC Board. On the occasion, a newly constructed rest house for senior citizens and mothers, along with a children’s play area, was also inaugurated.
In her address, newly appointed Hon'ble Mayor Tshering Palden Bhutia expressed heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang-Golay and pledged to discharge her responsibilities with sincerity, honesty, and dedication.
Gayden Chopel (Garry) Gangtok Municipal Commissioner delivered the welcome address, while Secretary-cum-Commissioner Jitendra Singh Raje highlighted the significance of the programme and congratulated the newly elected representatives. He stressed the need for coordination in addressing civic issues by placing them before the government and concerned departments for resolution.
