ECI Director Chairs Review Meeting on SIR 2026 at DAC Gangtok

Gangtok, June 1 (IPR): Director, Election Commission of India (ECI), Ms Shubhra Saxena, chaired a review meeting with Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) and Booth Level Officers (BLOs) on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 of electoral rolls at the conference hall of the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Gangtok, in Sichey today.

Addressing the meeting, Ms Saxena explained the rationale behind conducting the Special Intensive Revision in the State, stating that the exercise aims to purify the electoral rolls by ensuring that only eligible electors are included. She clarified that the objective of the SIR process is not to delete voters but to verify the eligibility and authenticity of electors in the State.

The Director emphasised the importance of proper mapping and verification during the revision process and highlighted the crucial role of EROs, AEROs and BLOs in ensuring the accuracy of electoral rolls. She apprised the officials of their responsibilities and stressed that no eligible elector should be left out of the electoral roll. Further, she directed the BLOs to discharge their duties with diligence, accuracy and sincerity.

Concluding her address, Ms Saxena conveyed her best wishes to all BLOs and encouraged them to carry out their assigned responsibilities with utmost dedication and commitment.

An interactive session was also held during which the Director interacted with the BLOs and addressed their queries regarding the ongoing revision process.

Earlier in the day, Ms Saxena visited the Media Monitoring Cell (MMC) established for SIR 2026 in Gangtok District at DAC Mini Conference Hall. During the visit, District Information Officer (DIO), Gangtok, briefed the Director on the role of the media and the functioning of the Media Monitoring Cell in supporting awareness and information dissemination related to the revision process.
