Our school had the opportunity to attend a one-day workshop on Sustainable Lifestyle Skilling at the Forest Department, Gangtok. It was an inspiring and hands-on experience where we learnt how to transform old and unused clothes into useful, beautiful bags and other creative items.
The workshop taught us that sustainability is not always about buying something new. Sometimes, it is about looking at what we already have with a little more creativity.
We came back with more than just new skills. We came back with an idea: let’s make upcycling a trend in our school! Let every student learn to make their own laundry bags and grocery bags.
Because when old clothes get a new purpose, we give both our creativity and our planet a little more life.

A School Health Programme was organised at Ranka Senior Secondary School in collaboration with the Health & Wellness Centre (HWC-SHC), Ranka, under the Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim, on 24th, 25th and 26th August 2026.
The programme focused on the health and well-being of students and included DPT/DT vaccination for eligible children, dental and eye screening, anthropometric measurements, general health screening and haemoglobin (Hb) testing.
The programme provided students with important preventive healthcare services and helped in the early identification of health-related concerns. Necessary arrangements were made by the school, and class teachers assisted in completing the RBSK forms and ensuring the required student details were available.
The programme was beneficial in promoting health awareness, regular screening and preventive healthcare among students.

Some Glimpses from the Adolescent Health Awareness Programme

An informative Adolescent Health Awareness Programme was organised by Sang PHC at Government Senior Secondary School, Ranka, focusing on the health, well-being and awareness of adolescent students.

The programme also included DPT vaccination, dental screening and eye screening, providing students with essential preventive healthcare and health assessment services.

As part of the activities of the Red Ribbon Club (RRC), the Peer Educators and Members of RRC conducted an inspection and awareness visit to nearby shops around the school premises. The main objective of the visit was to observe the availability and sale of to***co products such as ci******es and gutkha, particularly in shops accessible to students.
During the visit, the Peer Educators interacted with shopkeepers and sensitised them about the harmful effects of to***co consumption, especially among adolescents and young people. They were encouraged not to sell to***co products to minors and to follow the applicable rules and restrictions regarding to***co products near educational institutions.

As part of the activities of the Red Ribbon Club (RRC), the Peer Educators and Members of RRC conducted an awareness programme in the nearby community and barber shops on HIV and AIDS. The main objective was to create awareness about HIV, its effects on health, modes of transmission, and preventive measures.
During the programme, the Peer Educators explained that HIV affects the body's immune system and, if untreated, can lead to serious health problems. They also clarified common misconceptions about HIV transmission and encouraged community members to rely on correct and scientifically proven information.
