Sikkim Fire & Emergency Service will be observing the Fire Service Week at all the fire stations in the state from 14 to 20 April, 2023.
14 April was observed as Fire Martyrs Day by paying homage to fire fighters who laid down their lives in the line of duty. The day marks the ultimate sacrifice made by 80 firefighters who died fighting the inferno on an explosive laden ship docked in Bombay on 14 April, 1944. Their sacrifice saved thousands of lives on the day.
Sikkim Fire & Emergency Service will be conducting various activities during the weeklong program like fire safety educational and awareness campaigns, firefighting demonstrations, inspections at vital installations and commercial establishments. Essay writing competition is being held among the students of senior secondary level in all six districts on the topic "Fire Safety for Growth of National Infrastructures".
