The Sikkim Youth Alliance was formed earlier this year to respond to the increasing demand for a collective platform for youths to share ideas, knowledge, information, discuss critical issues, and spread awareness amongst our people. At SYA, we felt that it was necessary for the young generation to be more engaged on various issues, which eventually leads to a better quality of democratic governan
ce and people’s participation. Since the inception of SYA, various public interaction programmes have been undertaken to understand the ground realities and prepare ourselves to confront these issues that could have altered the Sikkkimese identity altogether. Today, Sikkim stands on the crossroads of mainstream developmental agendas at one side and safeguarding our distinct Sikkimese identity on the other enshrined in Article 371F of the Constitution of India. There has always been a lack of political will on part of the past and present regimes to secure the hopes and aspirations of the Sikkimese janta and the Sikkimese identity as a whole. For courage--not complacency--is our need today--leadership--not salesmanship. It is a time for a new generation of leadership--new men to cope with new problems and new opportunities. Presently, there is a strong desire for a popular new age alliance, which will encompass the divergent views and ideologies into one common platform. In the run up, there was immense popular support and a growing chorus of demand for the SYA to take a rock solid political standpoint. This has led to the birth of Sikkim Peoples Alliance
to give Sikkim and its people a holistic approach with a blend of liberal and progressive socialist vision for the overall development of the state. Most importantly the SPA will provide a modern nationalist approach for Sikkim’s cause, distinct identity, culture and ethnicity duly enshrined in the Constitution of India through Article 371F. It has now come upon the first generation of Sikkimese Indians to discard the past regimes and usher in a new consciousness in the political arena. The SPA aims to provide positivist socialism with value freedom, create a rational and ethical society for moral progress of humanity, create a secular free thinking base with anti communalism and anti racism ideals. The SPA also strongly believes in liberating ourselves from trained false consciousness implanted on the masses by the present regime. and stands for collective responsibility, transparency and accountability with affirmative actions. Our primary objective is to establish a people’s party and not a party that belongs to a handful of sycophants whose only objective is to rob the state and indulge in dirty caste based politics. Let us all unite. Let us fight for our New Sikkim, that will give men a chance to work, that will give youth a future and old age a security. By the promise of these things, the neo capitalists have risen to power. But they lie! They do not fulfill that promise. They never will. All over the world, the common people are revolting against od systems of exploitation and oppression and out of these, new systems of justice and equality are being born. The time has come to settle our discrepancies and place everything at the service of our struggle, for our motherland. Jai Sikkim JaiHind !
