An Awareness Campaign and Training of Trainers (TOT) on INSPIRE SIKKIM Held Successfully in Martam
Martam, Gangtok District, 31st March, 2026.

An Awareness Campaign and Orientation Sessions (Training of Trainers - TOT) on INSPIRE SIKKIM was successfully organized today at the Martam Block Administrative Centre (BAC) Conference Hall for 20 Non-Farm Sakhi's from each block under Gangtok District. The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries including Mrs. Sumee S***a (Ranka), Mrs. Sarita Rai (Khamdong), Mr. Umesh Gurung (Nandok), and Mr. Uttam Kumar Chettri (Martam), all Block Project Managers (BPMs) under Sikkim Rural Livelihood Mission (SRLM) RDD, under Gangtok District. Also present were Mrs. Bhawana Subedi, Assistant Project Manager (APM), and Mr. Khem Luitel, (Management Information Systems Officer), from the Block Mission Management Unit (BMMU), Martam.

The program commenced with a warm welcome speech by Mr. Uttam Kumar Chettri, BPM Martam, followed by the traditional offering of garlands to all guests, setting a respectful and collaborative tone.
The training sessions kicked off with an engaging ice-breaking activity to foster interaction among participants.

Key topics covered included:
Introduction and overview of Sikkim INSPIRE, presented by Mr. Uttam Kumar Chettri.

Role and responsibilities of Non-Farm Sakhi, elaborated by Mrs. Sarita Rai.

Entrepreneur Groups and their importance in Sikkim INSPIRE, along with the setup, functions, and objectives of Block/Business Facilitation Centres in all blocks, discussed by Mrs. Sumee S***a.

Role and responsibilities of Sikkim Rural Livelihood Mission (SRLM) in Sikkim INSPIRE, outlined by Mr. Umesh Gurung.

Strategies to connect Sikkim INSPIRE in Gangtok District and its key activities in the region, presented by Mr. Khem Luitel.
The sessions were interactive and comprehensive, equipping the Non-Farm Sakhi's with essential knowledge to drive the initiative forward.

A two-day capacity building workshop for Sahayogi Ama under the Nasha Mukta Bharat Abhiyan was successfully organized by the Social Welfare Department from 30th March 2026 to 31st March 2026 at the Assam Lingzey Tribal Research Institute.
The workshop aimed to strengthen awareness and enhance the capacity of community-level functionaries in addressing issues related to substance abuse and promoting a drug-free society. Various sessions were conducted focusing on prevention strategies, community mobilization, counseling approaches, and the role of grassroots workers in spreading awareness.
From Khamdong Block, two SHG members, Mrs. Chandra Kala Pradhan and Mrs. Meena Sewa, actively participated in the training programme. Their participation contributed to gaining valuable knowledge and skills, which will further support awareness generation and community-level interventions under the programme.

On 26th March 2026, a field visit was conducted at Chisopani GPU to review the functioning of the Cereal Producer Group (Upper Chisopani) and Poultry Producer Group (Upper Tinik). During the visit, interactions were held with group members regarding their activities, innovative ideas, value addition, and market opportunities. On 19th March 2026, a field visit was conducted at Sirwani GPU to review and monitor the functioning of the Vegetable Producer Group and Poultry Producer Group. The visit aimed to assess ongoing activities, understand operational challenges, and provide necessary guidance for improving productivity and efficiency.
During the interaction, detailed discussions were held with the group members on enhancing the production of vegetables and poultry products through better planning, management practices, and resource utilization. Emphasis was also given to value addition activities, encouraging members to adopt innovative approaches such as grading, packaging, and processing to increase the market value of their products and improve income generation.
The programme was attended by BPM and Bank Sakhi who actively engaged with the members and provided support and suggestions for strengthening group performance and sustainability.

A Financial Literacy Camp (FLC) for the financial year 2025–2026 was successfully conducted at the SHG level under Khamdong Block by Bank Sakhi Mrs. Sashi Rai. The programme aimed to enhance financial awareness and promote financial inclusion among Self-Help Group (SHG) members.
During the session, detailed awareness was provided on various government-backed financial and social security schemes, including Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), and Atal Pension Yojana (APY). The key features, benefits, eligibility criteria, premium details, and enrollment process of these schemes were explained to the participants in a simple and practical manner. In addition, the Bank Sakhi also created awareness regarding cybercrime and banking frauds, guiding SHG members on safe banking practices, digital transactions, and precautionary measures to protect themselves from financial fraud. 3rd week activities- National campaign for Gender equality, As part of the ongoing National Campaign for Gender Equality, Sikkim Rural Livelihood Mission Khamdong block has successfully conducted Farmers mela. Farmers’ Mela under Naye Chetana Pahal on Gender Equality
A Farmers’ Mela under “Naye Chetana Pahal” (New Awareness Initiative), focusing on Gender Equality and Social Transformation. The programme was attended by officials and representatives from various line departments, including the Animal Husbandry Department and the Agriculture & Horticulture Department. The primary objective of the programme was to create awareness among farmers, Self Help Group (SHG) members, youth, and the wider community on the importance of gender equality, women’s empowerment, shared responsibilities, and inclusive development. The mela emphasized that equitable participation of both men and women is essential for sustainable livelihoods and holistic rural development. Through interactive sessions, discussions, and community participation, the programme highlighted key themes such as:
- Equal opportunities for men and women in agriculture and livelihood activities
- Respect, dignity, and rights of women
- Elimination of discrimination and harmful social practices
- The role of gender-balanced households and communities in strengthening rural economies
The programme witnessed active and enthusiastic participation from SHG members, farmers, local representatives, and officials, reflecting strong community support and collective commitment towards building an equal, inclusive, and progressive society.
On the occasion, SRLM Khamdong reiterated its commitment to promoting gender-responsive development and empowering rural communities through continuous awareness initiatives, capacity-building programmes, and livelihood interventions. The Farmers’ Mela under Naye Chetana Pahal marked another meaningful step towards fostering social change and inclusive growth in Khamdong Block.

3rd Week Activities – National Campaign for Gender Equality
As part of the ongoing National Campaign for Gender Equality, the Block Development Society (BDS) Khamdong successfully organized a Gender Awareness Programme at Sakyong Junior High School (JHS). The programme was conducted with the objective of creating awareness on gender equality and sensitizing students and staff about the importance of equal rights, responsibilities, and opportunities for all genders.
The awareness session emphasized the role of individuals in promoting respect, inclusion, and equality within their families, schools, and the wider community. Through interactive discussions and meaningful engagement, participants were encouraged to challenge gender stereotypes and actively contribute towards building a just and equitable society.
The programme served as an important platform to motivate young minds to become agents of positive change and to play a constructive role in uplifting society by fostering values of equality, dignity, and mutual respect.

2nd Week Activities – National Campaign for Gender Equality
As part of the ongoing National Campaign for Gender Equality, the Block Development Society (BDS), Khamdong successfully conducted a Facilitation Programme for selected progressive farmers from each Gram Panchayat Unit (GPU) under Khamdong Block. The programme aimed to strengthen the capacity of progressive farmers by providing guidance, motivation, and technical support to enhance agricultural productivity. Special emphasis was laid on encouraging local farmers—both women and men—to adopt improved farming practices and move towards large-scale and sustainable production. The initiative also focused on promoting equal participation of women farmers in decision-making, access to resources, and leadership roles in agriculture, in line with the objectives of the gender equality campaign.

2nd Week Activities – National Campaign for Gender Equality
BMMU Khamdong
As part of the ongoing National Campaign for Gender Equality, the BMMU Khamdong successfully organised a three-day training programme on Gender Modules 7 to 10 from 1st to 3rd December 2025 at the BAC Conference Hall, Khamdong.
On the first day, the training was conducted for the BDS Executive Committee and the BDS SAC Committee, focusing on enhancing their understanding of gender perspectives within community-level processes.
The training for the second and third day was provided to the SISD BRP and WRP under Khamdong Block, ensuring that field-level resource persons are equipped with the knowledge to facilitate gender-sensitive practices in their respective areas.
Across the three days, all four modules were effectively covered, which included:
1. Gender & Livelihood – Understanding how gender influences access to livelihood resources, opportunities, and decision-making.
2. Gender: Rights & Entitlements – Strengthening awareness of legal rights, social protections, and government entitlements related to gender equality.
3. Gender & FNHW (Food, Nutrition, Health & WASH) – Highlighting the importance of gender-sensitive approaches in nutrition, health, sanitation, and hygiene practices.
4. Gender & Decentralization – Emphasizing the role of local governance, Panchayati Raj Institutions, and community participation in promoting equitable decision-making.
Overall, the three-day programme enhanced the capacities of all participants and reinforced the block’s commitment toward advancing gender equality at every level of community.
