Health Camp on HIV/AIDS awareness and screening was successfully conducted today at Khamdong Block. The programme was organized by the Sikkim State AIDS Society, Gangtok, in collaboration with Khamdong Block Administrative Centre.
The camp provided free screening services for HIV I & II, hemoglobin, blood sugar, hepatitis, and blood pressure. The programme was attended by Dr. Negi and his team, Assistant Director Sonam Deki Bhutia, Programme Coordinator Bishal Rai from the Sikkim State AIDS Society, BAC Staffs BPM, students of Khamdong Senior Secondary School, members of various Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and the general public.
An awareness programme on HIV/AIDS was also conducted through a drama performance, which effectively educated and sensitized the participants about HIV prevention, testing, and the importance of eliminating stigma associated with the disease.

Today, BMMU Khamdong, successfully conducted a Field Testing Kit (FTK) Training under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) for Self-Help Group (SHG) members from various Gram Panchayat Units (GPUs) under Khamdong Block.
The training was facilitated by the Junior Engineer (JE) from the Block Administrative Centre (BAC), who provided a comprehensive orientation on the importance of water quality monitoring, the objectives of the Field Testing Kit, and its role in ensuring safe drinking water under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Following the orientation, the practical session was facilitated by the Barefoot Engineer (BFE), who demonstrated the proper use of the FTK for testing various water quality parameters. The SHG members actively participated in the hands-on training and gained practical experience in conducting water quality tests accurately.The participants learned both the theoretical aspects and practical application of the Field Testing Kit, enhancing their capacity to monitor drinking water quality at the community level. The training concluded successfully with active participation and enthusiastic engagement from all the SHG members.

Attended Gram Sabha of the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) for the Financial Year 2025–2026, Gram Sabha meetings were conducted across five Gram Panchayat Units (GPUs) under Khamdong Block, Gangtok District, according to the following schedule:
22nd June 2026 – Dung Dung Thasa GPU
23rd June 2026 – Sirwani GPU
24th June 2026 – Khamdong GPU
25th June 2026 – Simik Lingzey GPU
26th June 2026 – Chisopani GPU
The Gram Sabha meetings were attended by the Ward Panchayat Members, Zilla Panchayat Members, officials and staff of the respective Gram Panchayat Units, BDO sir, departmental heads and officials from the BAC, representatives of various line departments, SHG members, WDS & BDS office bearer and members of the general public.
During the meetings, the SHG members actively participated and discussed the Village Prosperity and Resilience Plan (VPRP), highlighting the community's needs and priorities.
Representatives from different line departments briefed the participants on the schemes and services available under their respective departments.
The Gram Sabha served as an important platform for participatory planning, where members of the public actively raised genuine issues and concerns related to infrastructure, drinking water, sanitation, roads, agriculture, health, education, livelihoods, social welfare, and other developmental needs of their respective villages. The suggestions and demands put forward by the villagers were recorded for consideration during the preparation of the GPDP.
BDO Sir emphasized the importance of active community participation in the planning process and encouraged all stakeholders to identify and prioritize genuine development needs. He highlighted the significance of convergence among various government departments for the effective implementation of developmental programmes and urged the public to work collectively with the Panchayati Raj Institutions

On 25th June 2026, BMMU Khamdong conducted a Nasha Mukti Abhiyan in collaboration with BDS Khamdong. The programme was attended by SHG members, block staff, and office bearers of BDS Khamdong.The resource persons for the programme were ASHA workers from the Health & Wellness Centre, Khamdong. She highlighted the harmful effects of substance abuse and emphasized the importance of creating awareness to build a healthier and addiction-free society. The main objective of the programme was to spread the message of a Nasha Mukta (Drug-Free) Village, Ward, and Block and to encourage community participation in preventing substance abuse.
The programme concluded with all participants taking the Nasha Mukti Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to promoting a drug-free society and supporting the vision of a Nasha Mukta Village, Ward, and Block.

A 3-Day Training Programme on Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and Climate Risk was attended by Mrs. Meena Chettri and Mrs. Santoki Dural, Krishi Sakhi BRPs, from 21st to 23rd May 2026 at Janta Bhawan, Gangtok. The training was organized by the SMMU Livelihoods (LH) Division.

The training aimed to enhance the knowledge and capacity of Krishi Sakhis regarding crop insurance, climate-related risks, and their role in supporting farmers at the grassroots level. It provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of agricultural risk management and the importance of safeguarding farmers' livelihoods through effective insurance coverage.

The sessions focused on the key features and significance of PMFBY, including the benefits of crop insurance, farmer enrolment procedures, claim settlement processes, and strategies for creating awareness among farming communities. Participants were also sensitized to various climate-related risks affecting agriculture and were introduced to climate adaptation measures, disaster preparedness, and climate-resilient farming practices.

The programme strengthened the participants' ability to guide and support farmers in accessing crop insurance benefits, managing climate-related challenges, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices within their respective communities.

Late Post- On 21st April 2026, BMMU Khamdong successfully organized the Poshan Pakhwada programme in coordination with the BDS The programme was conducted with the objective of creating awareness about nutrition, health, and the importance of early childhood development. The event was chaired by the BDO, along with the presence of ICDS workers, BMMU staff members, and representatives from various Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
The main theme of the programme focused on “Maximizing Brain Development in the First Six Years of Life.” Special emphasis was given to the importance of proper nutrition, health care, and a supportive environment during the early years of childhood, which are considered the most crucial stage for physical and cognitive development.
During the programme, ICDS worker Mrs. Pem Chukit shared valuable knowledge regarding balanced nutritional diets and healthy food practices for mothers and children. She highlighted the importance of proper nutrition in preventing malnutrition and ensuring the healthy growth and development of children.
The BDO of Khamdong also addressed the gathering and elaborated on the overall benefits of the Jan Andolan initiative under Poshan Abhiyaan. He encouraged active community participation and emphasized collective responsibility in spreading awareness about nutrition, health, sanitation, and child care practices to build a healthier society.
Additionally, the ICDS workers closely monitored the height and weight of children during the programme to assess their nutritional and health status. The growth monitoring activity was conducted to identify children who may be undernourished or at risk of malnutrition. The workers also guided parents and caregivers on the importance of regular health check-ups, balanced diets, and proper child care.
