A State level Stakeholder’s Sensitization workshop on implementation of Biological Diversity Act in Assam was held at NEDFi House, Guwahati on 10th February 2026. The programme was organized by Assam State Biodiversity Board in collaboration with Assam Forest Department and National Biodiversity Authority, Chennai. The main objectives of the programme was to sensitize the members of the Zilla Parishad Biodiversity Management Committee members, Faculties and Students of Educational Institutions on the need to document and update the People’s Biodiversity Registers (PBR) and thestatus of Access and Benefit Sharing Regulations in Assam.
Dignitaries present during the workshop include Sri Anurag Singh, IFS, Addl. PCCF (Biodiversity) & Member Secretary-ASBB, Sri, Kalyan Chakravorty, IAS, Addl. Chief Secretary, PNRD, Dr. S. K. Borthakur, Retd. Professor of Botany and Expert Member-ASBB, Dr. P. K. Saikia, Retd. Professor of Zoology and Expert Member-ASBB, Dr. Chhandashree Bhuyan, Associate Professor, Department of Zoology, Arya Vidyapeeth College and Expert Member-ASBB and Sri Sunnydeo Indradeo Choudhury, IFS, Conservator of Forests, Central Assam Circle.
The following were releleased during the workshop:
1. Kaziranga Mosaic- a coffee table book and a promo video showcasing the rich natural resources deeply embedded in the Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) of communities living on the fringes of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve.
2. Assam- The Cradle of Rice- a Documentary showcasing the rich rice diversity of Assam.
3. Amphibians and Reptiles of Assam- An Amateurs guide book and
4. Biodiversity of Behali WLS- a booklet showcasing the rich biodiversity of Behali WLS
Around 150 participants gather during the workshop including Board members from line Departments such as Agriculture, PNRD, Fishery, members of Zilla Parishad BMCs of Kamrup M, Kamrup Rural, Jorhat, Hojai, Dhemaji, Nalbari, Golaghat, Dhubri, Faculties and Students from Gauhati University, Cotton University, Royal Global University, North Guwahati College, Pragjyotish College, Arya Vidyapeeth College, Pandu College, Dimoria College, HelpEarth and RGVN NGOs.
