The Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) will now have greater autonomy after the passing if the IIM Bill 2017. The power to appoint the chairperson as well as, the director will now lie with the board of the institutes. The Chairperson of the board will be appointed by the board for a period of four years, while the Director of each IIM will be appointed by the board for a period of five years via a search-cum-selection panel.

IIM Bill 2017: Good news for management aspirants as Rajya Sabha on Tuesday passed the Indian Institute of Management Bill 2017. The bill was earlier, passed by Lok Sabha in July and by the Union Cabinet in January this year.

In order to reduce the compliance burden, the Finance Act 2017 provides that the deductor is not required to obtain Tax Deduction Account Number and is liable to deduct tax only once in a tax year.

An android App for the computation of solar energy potential has been developed by Space Applications Centre (SAC), ISRO. It is a very useful tool for installation of PV solar panels for tapping solar energy.

The App provides monthly / yearly solar potential (in kWh/m2) and minimum / maximum temperature at any location. It also displays the location on the satellite image and provides azimuth / elevation angles as well as day length over different time periods in a year.

Computation of solar energy potential is essential to select the locations for solar photovoltaic (PV) thermal power plants. Do you know.. What is Vote on Account?

The Vote on Account is an interim arrangement under which approval of Parliament is obtained to withdraw money from the consolidated fund when the budget for new financial year is not passed.

“I congratulate the Finance Minister for completing the budgetary exercise and seeking the approval of both houses of Parliament, all the expenditure proposals, and all matters relating to the Finance Bill within March 31. “And after many years, I do not remember of after how many years, no Vote on Account was taken this particular year,” the President said.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today received a pat from President Pranab Mukherjee for completing the budget exercise by March 31 and not seeking a the Vote on Account, which happened for the first time in many years.
