We are shocked to learn about Mr. Swaminathan Ramamurthy, Indian Express passing away recently. He was a great elder brother to many in Gopalapuram. He was a great father to his children, great husband, great uncle to many niece and nephews, great brother to his siblings. Great son tohis parents, in addition tothe many greats.. He had a great mechanical mind and aptitude for electrical and electronics. He was one of the first to assemble TV sets along with his friends. He has fixed so many ceiling fans, wall tube lights ...He was one of this group Admin. We will miss him badly....

The Gopalapuram Hindu Religious Society today celebrated the sixth anniversary of the consecration of Sri Venugopalaswamy temple with special abhishekam alankaram and homams with hundreds of devotees taking part in the prayers and partaking of prasadam. Thoughtful arrangements won spontaneous appreciation from donors. sponsors and devotees many of whom are long time residents of the locality.

Traffic police personnel on Avvai Shanmugham Salai appear to suffer from selective paranoia. I saw a senior officer accompanied by two in a recovery truck charging a karnataka registered car driver for parking opposite to Dav girls school this morning around ten. He mulcted a fine of Rs 1500 for parking in the noparking stretch of the road. At the same time I could see more than half a dozen cars some with yellow colour number plates parked on the pavement giving pedestrians no space. On the other side of the road scores of school private vans are parked in a long line getting special permission. But who cares for the blatant misuse of the platform. Thus some manage to go scot free while a few hapless persons _ in this case a person from outside the state _ was booked for official reasons. Locals get away with the uniformed men by greasing their palms. Selective justice is quite common everywhere and on the street. Long live Indians.

More improvemens are taking place in the area and the welllaid pavements have stainless steel railing fixed. Work is still on. Pathetically enough parking of twowheelers is still going on. This is an eyesore and hope someone ends this practice.

Pavements near the temple which has become very popular in recent years thanks to the thorough going school traffic are getting a facelift now with red and white sparkling high grip tiles due to VIP visitors but sadly enough ramps have come up in concrete to enable parking of two_wheelers everywhere by those who have no parking space in their compound and also by outsiders. Apart from the security risks the vehicles, old and new, are an eyesore and will sink and spoil the even surface very soon..
In fact awareness must grow and spread that pavements are not for vendors, pillars and vehicles. Vehicle owners can use the paid service compund next to the temple.
The pavements or platforms are for pedestrians especially school children hurrying at the last minute, unable to wade through the traffic. Boards must come up against pavement parking and offenders punished severely.
Three cheers to singara gopalapuram for giving an.uplift to platforms with bollards on Conransmith road and other streets in the area. Cars continue to be parked to the extent possible on pavements with two wheels on the road. Encroachment of the worst kind.
Clean Streets:
Streets must get closed sintex bins to prevent trash being deposited near the electricity and telephone pillar boxes and street corners.
Bins must be regularly cleaned. Whether Chennai corporation will act on this suggestion remains to be seen and the first information is : there is a severe shortage of mobile bins in the civic body but those who provide for tiles can ensure bins are placed and used and the pavements are not violated/abused.
