District Science Centre Gulbarga The District Science Centre was opened to the public on 6th January 1984 under National Council of Science Museums, Ministry of Culture, Govt of India. Dist.

Science Centre, Gulbarga is one of the 25 units of National Council of Science Museums, functioning under the purview of Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India. It is only one of its kinds in Karnataka and first Science centre opened in South India. It was dedicated to the people of Gulbarga on 6th January 1984. This centre is under the administrative control of Visvesvaraya Industrial & Technologica

l Museum, Bangalore. Main objective of the centre is to popularise Science and technology to the students in particular and general public at large, through the interactive exhibits displayed in the Galleries of the centre and educational extensional programmes /competitions, which the centre organises. District Science Centres are activity oriented centres in contrast to the large metropolitan Museums, which are exhibit oriented. I Read I forget, I see – I remember, I do – I understand ……… is the motto of the Dist. Science Centre, Gulbarga. Science has a made tremendous impact on our daily life. It is necessary to go for experimentation and demonstration through models for understanding many day to day phenomenons. Rational and creative thinking helps us to develop scientific temper. Exhibits of this centre allow the visitors to explore and experiment. Science centre provides a fascinating array of demonstrations and hands on activities to ignite and inspire young minds. Learning science is made easy through the interactive exhibits of the centre. The science centre aims to involve not only school, college, and university students but also the people away from formal education system. Thus it helps people from different walks of life to develop scientific spirit. At present centre has Four Galleries, viz., Fun Science (opened in 2004), Electronics (opened in 2005) and Popular Science (opened in 2010), Mathematics (2015). Three special attraction of the centre are Digital planetarium (opened in 2010), 3D Theatre (opened in 2009), and Prehistoric Animal Park (opened in 2010). Apart from these facilities centre has Science Park (opened in 1995). Other facilities of the centre are Mirror maze corner (opened in 2012), Telescopes for observing the night sky and a mobile science exhibition bus (1992).
