In the spirit of the National Reading and Library Movement in India, we continue to champion reading as a lifelong skill — not just for school or college, but for life.

🌳Tree Plantation with a Difference!

🌍On World Environment Day – June 5, 2025, the READ India Community Library in Aurangabad, in collaboration with Perkins India Pvt. Ltd, led a unique tree plantation drive in the hilly terrains of Ladsawangi village.

Together, we planted 200 indigenous trees — not just to green the landscape, but to protect soil, restore biodiversity, and purify the air.

This wasn’t just about trees. It was about community-led conservation.
Villagers, local leaders, Gram Panchayat members, and the Oxygen Tree Bank came together to root this movement in collective responsibility.

🌿From Peepal to Khirni, Amla to Mahua, each species was chosen for its local resilience and ecological value.

💚Together, we’re growing more than a forest — we’re growing a movement.

🌎World Environment Day, June 5, 2025

At READ India, sustainability is a way of life.

Our community libraries don’t just nurture a love for reading — they cultivate a deep respect for the planet.

✨Through everyday actions, we actively practice the 3Rs of sustainability:

🌳Reduce what we consume — by conserving electricity, paper, and supplies through mindful use

🌳Reuse what still has value — giving books, art materials, and story props a second life

🌳Recycle with purpose — transforming waste into posters, crafts, and awareness campaigns

But we don’t stop there.

Our Community-Driven Waste Management Initiatives address the growing challenge of unmanaged waste and landfilling in rural and urban India.

In Delhi, Gurgaon, Mewat, and Palwal, we’re mobilizing women and youth to:

🌱Reduce non-biodegradable waste through awareness and behaviour change
🌱Build skills in waste management that translate into livelihood opportunities
🌱Promote alternatives to stubble burning

✨This World Environment Day, we celebrate the power of literacy and local leadership to create sustainable, resilient communities.

Our environment related work supports SDG 5, 6, 8, 10, 11, and 12.

✨Terracotta Workshop at READ India – Kelwara Centre, Baran, Rajasthan!✨

READ India, in collaboration with artists Mr. Harish Dhawan and Mr. Manoj Prajapati, recently conducted a hands-on Terracotta Skilling Workshop for women at our Kelwara Centre in Baran.
The workshop empowered local women to craft a range of beautiful and practical products using mud and natural materials — blending traditional techniques with artistic innovation.

💡What made it truly special? The artists shared decades of research and lived practice directly with those who need it most.
This initiative was conducted in selected villages and blocks of Baran – an Aspirational District of Rajasthan – as part of READ India's mission to bring unique expertise to the doorsteps of rural communities.

READ India, in partnership with the HT Parekh Foundation, has launched a vibrant network of Community Libraries to bring the joy of reading and learning to communities in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Delhi.
These libraries are inclusive and welcoming spaces, thoughtfully designed especially for children and young learners.
With a curated collection of age-appropriate books and access to digital tools, the initiative focuses on:

READ India has been working in the selected blocks of district Baran. The programmes on mothers and daughters education through day and night schools, access to IT tools, audio-visual production for collating local best practices; teachers training; sewing and stitching; beauty and wellness and Community Health Workers; livelihood options keeping in view the interest of the women like gooseberry processing and spices etc. The efforts are still on aligning libraries with need-based skilling since 2016 and made many women leaders to take READ India’s mission ahead.
