The Gauhati University Campus NSS Unit, in association with Adeep Ankuran Foundation, organised a Cancer Awareness Programme to promote awareness about cancer prevention, early detection and healthy living.
The programme was graced by Dr. Ranjan Kumar Kakoti, Secretary, Gauhati University, and Chief Guest Dr. Pranab Bhuyan, Assistant Superintendent, State Cancer Institute. Dr. Rituparna Borah highlighted the important role of NSS volunteers in spreading cancer awareness and supporting community health initiatives. Dr. Sashi Prabha Devi was also present at the programme. A representative from the Assam Cancer Care Foundation shared valuable insights on cancer awareness. Anindita Rudraksh Bora, President, Adeep Ankuran Foundation, delivered the welcome address, while Bandita Deka, Secretary, represented the foundation. Volunteers and POs of Gauhati University Campus (GUC) NSS Unit actively participated in the "Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan" held at the GUIST Seminar Hall, Gauhati University on 2nd August 2026.
The programme commenced with a Welcome Address by Dr. Ranjan Kumar Kakati, Programme Coordinator, GU NSS Cell. This was followed by an inspiring address by Prof. Utpal Sarma, Registrar, Gauhati University, highlighting the importance of a Nasha Mukt Bharat and the collective responsibility of youth in building a Viksit Bharat.
The event was graced by the Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, Gauhati University, Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, as the Chief Guest. The programme was also attended by Charan suklabaidya the District Youth Officer, MY Bharat, Kamrup Metro, and the District Sports Officer, Kamrup Metro, whose presence added great value to the occasion.
The programme culminated with the virtual interaction of the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, who inspired the youth of the nation to lead the movement against substance abuse and work towards building a healthy, empowered, and Viksit Bharat.
Together, let us pledge to build a Drug-Free India and inspire a brighter future for generations to come.
