Supporting rural women entrepreneurs isn't just about helping individual businesses. It's about creating an ecosystem where those businesses can grow.

Across 19 districts in Assam and West Bengal, Udyamini is working to connect women entrepreneurs with markets, finance, knowledge, institutions, digital tools and other opportunities.

With 5 value chains, 30 ecosystem stakeholders, 20,500 women entrepreneurs reached directly and a further 81,300 reached indirectly, the aim is to build stronger pathways for women-led enterprises to thrive.

Because when the ecosystem grows stronger, more women get the opportunity to build, earn and grow.

On 20 August, Akshay Urja Diwas was observed at Sonamukhi Block Office, Bankura, bringing together farmers, SHG Didis, Rural Women Entrepreneurs, and government representatives to explore the potential of renewable energy in rural communities.

The programme highlighted solar irrigation, micro-irrigation, and decentralised renewable energy (DRE) technologies, along with government schemes and convergence opportunities.

A key focus was on enabling Rural Women Entrepreneurs to become local DRE entrepreneurs—adopting, demonstrating, and providing services around renewable energy technologies.

By creating new livelihood opportunities for women while helping farmers and households access clean energy solutions, renewable energy can become a pathway to more resilient rural communities.

From traditional weaving skills to a thriving enterprise, the women of Joybhaba SHG are showing what collective action and the right support can make possible.

Starting with an initial investment of Rs 10,000 in March 2024, the women weavers of Santipur have built a diversified business around weaving inputs and saree sales, generating approximately Rs 2–2.5 lakh in monthly business revenue.

Through Udyamini, they strengthened their skills in entrepreneurship, business planning, costing, cash-flow management and market access, creating opportunities not just for themselves, but for other local women and weavers.

As SHG Leader Rita Das says, “Believe in your skills, learn the business, work collectively and take the first step.”

This is the story of how small beginnings can grow into sustainable enterprises.

When floodwaters washed away the only bamboo bridge connecting Men Kathar village in Karbi Anglong to the outside world, the impact went far beyond disrupted travel.

For the village's Rural Women Entrepreneurs (RWEs), it meant losing access to the tea-processing roller machine that supports their livelihoods. Refusing to give up, the community came together to rebuild a temporary bridge and carry the machine across the river by hand, ensuring their work could continue.

Their story is one of resilience, but it also highlights the challenges remote communities continue to face every monsoon, where temporary infrastructure is often their only lifeline.
