A proud moment for Udyamini! 🌿

The Chief Minister’s Office, Assam, has recognised the work of Grassroots Tea Corporation (GTC) and the growing success of women-led tea enterprises in Karbi Anglong.

Through Udyamini, GTC has been working with rural women entrepreneurs to strengthen their tea enterprises, develop their own brands and access wider markets. Today, the efforts of 1,000+ women entrepreneurs are earning recognition at the national level.

A recognition of the women, their enterprises and the ecosystem helping them grow. 💚

From a needle and thread to a thriving rural enterprise, Shamima Yashmin is stitching a new future through Kantha.

What began six years ago with door-to-door sales has grown into an enterprise spanning Kantha stitch, dyeing and Batik print, connecting 200+ rural women to livelihood opportunities.

With support from Udyamini, Shamima strengthened her business skills, embraced digital tools and began reaching buyers beyond her village. In the last quarter alone, she secured orders for 70–80 craft and art-stitching décor pieces, with earnings expected to cross ₹50,000.

Her journey has now reached the national stage, with a Ministry of Textiles commission for a story wall combining painting and Kantha stitching.

A story of craft, digital empowerment and collective growth, one stitch at a time.

From training and skill-building to market exposure, renewable energy, and platforms like the Innovation Expo, our Rural Women Entrepreneurs continued to learn, grow, and take their enterprises forward.

A new milestone for Rural Women Entrepreneurs from Karbi Anglong! 🍃

On 29 August 2026, Regina Rongpipi inaugurated the Innovation Expo organised by the Tea Board of India at Nexus Ahmedabad One Mall, Ahmedabad.

The two-day expo brings together small tea grower innovators from Assam and other Northeastern states, giving them an opportunity to showcase their products in Gujarat, India’s highest tea-consuming state, while connecting with bulk buyers and consumers.

Representing the Udyamini programme, Regina Rongpipi and Priya Engtipi are showcasing their tea products and sharing the stories behind their enterprises, with Minto Goswami supporting their engagement with tea traders and consumers.

Visitors can also taste and purchase the teas at the stall, an opportunity to experience the unique products and the entrepreneurial journeys behind them.

A meaningful step towards bringing the work of rural women entrepreneurs to new markets and wider audiences. 🌱

Partner Spotlight: Grameen Sahara 🌿

A strong handloom enterprise needs more than weaving skills—it needs access to quality raw materials, markets, and the right support.

As part of the Udyamini Collective, Grameen Sahara is helping rural women weavers in Assam address these gaps through enterprise support, market linkages, and community-based Yarn Banks that bring essential raw materials closer to them.

By reducing the time and cost of accessing yarn while creating opportunities for women to manage these local enterprises, the initiative is helping build a stronger, more accessible handloom ecosystem.

Together, we're helping rural women turn traditional skills into sustainable livelihoods.

Did you know?

Supporting rural women entrepreneurs isn't just about helping individual businesses. It's about creating an ecosystem where those businesses can grow.

Across 19 districts in Assam and West Bengal, Udyamini is working to connect women entrepreneurs with markets, finance, knowledge, institutions, digital tools and other opportunities.

With 5 value chains, 30 ecosystem stakeholders, 20,500 women entrepreneurs reached directly and a further 81,300 reached indirectly, the aim is to build stronger pathways for women-led enterprises to thrive.

Because when the ecosystem grows stronger, more women get the opportunity to build, earn and grow.

On 20 August, Akshay Urja Diwas was observed at Sonamukhi Block Office, Bankura, bringing together farmers, SHG Didis, Rural Women Entrepreneurs, and government representatives to explore the potential of renewable energy in rural communities.

The programme highlighted solar irrigation, micro-irrigation, and decentralised renewable energy (DRE) technologies, along with government schemes and convergence opportunities.

A key focus was on enabling Rural Women Entrepreneurs to become local DRE entrepreneurs—adopting, demonstrating, and providing services around renewable energy technologies.

By creating new livelihood opportunities for women while helping farmers and households access clean energy solutions, renewable energy can become a pathway to more resilient rural communities.

From traditional weaving skills to a thriving enterprise, the women of Joybhaba SHG are showing what collective action and the right support can make possible.

Starting with an initial investment of Rs 10,000 in March 2024, the women weavers of Santipur have built a diversified business around weaving inputs and saree sales, generating approximately Rs 2–2.5 lakh in monthly business revenue.

Through Udyamini, they strengthened their skills in entrepreneurship, business planning, costing, cash-flow management and market access, creating opportunities not just for themselves, but for other local women and weavers.

As SHG Leader Rita Das says, “Believe in your skills, learn the business, work collectively and take the first step.”

This is the story of how small beginnings can grow into sustainable enterprises.
