North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation Ltd (NEHHDC),a Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry Of Development of North Eastern Region mandated for development and promotion of North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms has its Corporate Office at Guwahati, Assam. Since inception, the Corporation has been spearheading various activities which relate to development,
production, promotion and marketing viz., training and design development, skill up gradation, capacity building, awareness generation amongst artisans and weavers, R&D activities, marketing and exports. NEHHDC undertakes multifarious activities to provide handholding support to the artisans and weavers of Northeast right from training to marketing. It conducts various exhibitions, craft bazaars, expos in different places of India throughout the year where artisans and weavers participate to promote and market their products. It has its own chain of retail outlets by the Brand name “Purbashree”, located at Guwahati, New Delhi, Kolkata and Shillong, which is a one stop shop for various handloom and handicraft products of Northeast India having a collection varying forms of traditional and tribal dresses, handloom textiles of Muga, Eri, mulberry silk, utility items , decorative items to furniture(made of Cane and Bamboo) etc collected from all the artisans and weavers of all the eight states of Northeast.
