Pleased to share the recent publication on Ru-regulated bimetal NiFe-MOF (MIL-53) for enhanced oxygen evolution reaction with improved electron transfer kinetics by Dr. Ujjwal Pal’s group from CSIR-IICT.

In this report, Ru-modified NiFe-MOF (MIL-53 type) was successfully prepared by a simple solvothermal method. The incorporation of Ru improved the surface properties and electronic interaction of the material, leading to better catalytic performance. Among the prepared samples, Ru50NiFe-MOF showed the best OER activity, requiring an overpotential of 281 mV at 20 mA cm⁻² with a Tafel slope of 65 mV dec⁻¹.
The improved performance is mainly due to the combined effect of Ru and NiFe active sites, which helps faster charge transfer and provides more accessible reaction sites. The catalyst also showed good durability, maintaining stable activity for nearly 65 h. After OER, some structural changes toward active oxyhydroxide species were observed. The Ru50NiFe-MOF-based electrolyser also showed efficient overall water splitting with a cell voltage of 1.56 V and good stability. Overall, this study presents a simple and effective strategy for developing durable electrocatalysts for sustainable hydrogen production.

Pleased to share the recent publication on Vinylogous Mannich Cyclization for the Stereoselective Construction of trans-2-Alkenyl-3-Aminophenyl-Dihydrobenzofuran and -Dihydroindole Derivatives by Dr. Surisetti Suresh’s group from CSIR-IICT (https://doi.org/10.1002/ejoc.70737).

Developed a mild and efficient one-pot strategy for synthesizing 2-alkenyl-3-aminophenyl-dihydrobenzofuran and -dihydroindole frameworks with high yields and good diastereoselectivity. The method proceeds through O/N-allylation followed by intramolecular vinylogous Mannich cyclization and is demonstrated at gram scale with further functionalization.

CSIR-IICT’s CEPT Department and the Skill Development Team organized a half day seminar themed "Empowering R&D with Automation" comprising three guest lectures under the Program Chair, Dr. S. CSIR–IICT Welcomes Dr. Gilles Alcaraz!

CSIR–Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR–IICT), Hyderabad, was pleased to welcome Dr. Gilles Alcaraz, Director, CNRS, University of Rennes, France, and Director of the CNRS Office in India, on 27 August 2026.

The visit focused on reviewing Indo-French collaborative research, exchanging views on emerging scientific areas, and exploring new opportunities to strengthen the partnership between CNRS, University of Rennes, and CSIR–IICT.

The interaction builds on the long-standing Indo-French Joint Laboratory Program, established in 2008, which continues to serve as a strong platform for collaborative research and scientific exchange in sustainable chemistry.
