History
The old observatory was started in Hyderabad on 10th November 1891 , in the Nizamiah observatory building located on the top of the ridge. Later it was shifted to old Begumpet airport in 1926. The observatory was upgraded as �Meteorological Centre� in 1973 to extend meteorological services to state. Meteorological Centre, Hyderabad
METEOROLOGICAL CENTRE, HYDERABAD maintains 29
surface observatories (17 departmental and 12 part-time), 4 pilot balloon observatories, 3 Radiosonde/Rawin observatories, 5 Agricultural observatories, 35 Automatic Weather Stations, 64 Automatic Rain Gauges and 460 Rain Gauge stations managed by State Govts. Services provided
WEATHER FORECASTING:
Daily a main bulletin is issued at 2 pm based on 03 GMT
data which contains forecast for Andhra Pradesh and
Telangana states for next 7 days, Heavy Rainfall
warning, position of the Low Pressure system if any,
local (city) forecast for 15 cities and Outlook for
subsequent 7 days along with the summary of
weather phenomena occurred (Daily weather report). Apart from this there is a weekly bulletin
(Weekly Weather Report) is also issued on every Thursday
which contains summary of previous week
(Thursday to Wednesday). AVIATION:
Weather information are provided to ATC and all
Airlines at Rajiv Gandhi International Aerodrome,
Shamshabad and at Begumpet aerodrome which
include upper air winds, temperatures, significant
weather (SIG Wx) charts, Aerodrome Warnings,
Terminal Aerodrome Forecasts, METARs and SIGMET
CYCLONE WARNING:
Cyclone warnings are disseminated well in advance to all concerned. FLOOD METEOROLOGICAL FORECAST
Flood Meteorological office at Hyderabad issues Daily
Bulletins for Godavari & Krishna river basins covering
six states and of 5,73,858 sq Km. basin area during flood
season (June to October) including synoptic situations,
spatial distribution rainfall forecast for each sub-basin, Heavy Rainfall Warnings along with
realized rainfall, Forecasts are issued to Central
Water Commission, Hyderabad.Quantitative
Precipitation Forecasts are also issued for the sub-basins
under flood situation / Heavy Rainfall events.
